PANTONE, the international authority on all things colour, has selected its official Colour of the Year 2014 - Radiant Orchid.
Described by Pantone as "a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple" set to make its impact on the fashion, beauty, art and design worlds, the hue has fuchsia, purple and pink undertones and replaces 2013's Emerald shade.
"Pantone quite literally combs the world looking for colour influences [when deciding upon the Colour of the Year]. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, travelling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact colour, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention," reads a press release from Pantone. "For more than a decade, Pantone's Colour of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design."
The best way to wear it? We'll be looking to the striking lipstick seen on Prabal Gurung's spring/summer 2014 catwalk and the wash of lilac around the eyes at Rochas.
