Korea. It is the plastic surgery capital of Asia. And yes, while the words natural and Korean women do not belong in the same sentence, we cannot deny that Korean women are attractive.
Big expressive eyes hooded by well shaped double eyelids, enviable fair and flawless skin, tiny V-Line shaped faces, glossy long brown hair and slim sharp noses. The Koreans have an ideal look which the majority of them find beautiful. In fact, in the Miss Korea 2013 pageant, all contestants looked eerily alike and many have attributed it to plastic surgery.
But what are Korean Women really like beneath that plastic? Here’s what I’ve been told...
Korean women are very body-conscious and exercise regularly to maintain a good body shape. Having extra meat on the bone is not attractive to them.
They’re often referred to as “beanpaste girl”. This describes the kind of modern Korean woman who will live as frugally as possible (example, eating a cheap beanpaste stew) so they can save up as much money as possible to spend on designer shoes and handbags. They will tote their luxury bags while saving money by travelling via the subway or bus.
Korean women are filial daughters. They are respectful and loyal to their parents. Similar to most Asian women, single Korean women live with their parents well into their 20s and 30s. And even though they are adults, it is not uncommon to find single Korean women who have curfews.
Korean women expect gifts from men. Jewellery, flowers, branded goods, make up and expensive gifts are expected for special occasions. They will also calculate how expensive a man’s shoes or watch is, and what clothes he is wearing. In general, Korean women don’t want cheap or poor men.
Korean women believe in “love skill”. 밀당 (mildang) is translated as "push and pull" which is a common dating strategy in Korea. One week she will be very keen on you and the next week she will ignore you.
Korean women are notorious for infidelity. Maybe it’s just an open relationship concept... but it’s very common for Korean girls to still accept the advances of another man even though they already have boyfriends or husbands. Adultery is actually a crime in Korea, but women are rarely prosecuted because of the loss of face for the man who has been cheated on.
According to our Content Partner, Keith Kim from Seoulistic.com,
"One of the most powerful weapons Korean girls have at their disposal is their cuteness. If you ever meet a Korean girl, you might find them acting extra cute to get what they want. Find out more about this unique Korean characteristic of Korean girls."
Of course, that said... these are merely generalisations and stereotypes which have come about over the decades.
It’s the same as people saying that Singaporean women are materialistic.
If there’s an inkling of truth in that stereotype, perhaps … just perhaps other stereotypes hold true too. Though no woman wants to admit it.
