Stars Who Regret Their Plastic Surgery

$

THEY went under the knife in an attempt to feel more beautiful, but they were left feeling nothing but regret.

Here are the stars who have had plastic surgery but wish they didn’t:

Sophie Monk: The Celebrity Apprentice winner admitted to Who magazine in 2011 that she has had lip fillers, but wasn’t happy with the results.

“Half of my lip was removed with the cyst, and I was advised to get filler in my top lip to help balance it out,” said the singer and actor.

“I should have said no to the filler in the first place but I trusted the doctor.”

Jane Fonda: The actor and former model looks amazing for 78, but plastic surgery is partly to thank.

“I did have plastic surgery,” she said.

“I’m not proud of the fact that I’ve had it. But I grew up so defined by my looks. I was taught to think that if I wanted to be loved, I had to be thin and pretty. That leads to a lot of trouble.”

Cher: The singer probably wishes that she could actually ‘turn back time’ and change her mind about getting plastic surgery.

“I’ve had my breasts done,” she said to People magazine in the 1990s.

“But my breast operations were a nightmare. They were really botched in every way. If anything, they were worse after than before.”

Cameron Diaz: The Charlie’s Angels star has vowed to never again get Botox after the experience left her looking a little odd.

“I’ve tried [Botox] before, where it was like a little tiny touch of something,” she said to E! news.

“It changed my face in such a weird way that I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to be like that.’ I’d rather see my face ageing than a face that doesn’t belong to me at all.”

Jessica Simpson: 2006 was a year of regret for Jessica Simpson. Her four-year marriage to Nick Lachey came to an end and she made an erroneous decision to get lip injections.

“I had that Restylane stuff,” said Simpson to Glamour magazine.

“It went away in like four months ... Thank God. They looked fake to me. I didn’t like that.”

Gwyneth Paltrow: For someone who is obsessed with living a ‘clean’ lifestyle, it’s surprising that Paltrow is so willing to “try anything” to improve her appearance.

“Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy,” she said to Glamourmagazine in 2013.

“I looked like Joan Rivers!”

The Iron Man star also opened up to the mag about getting Thermage laser treatment, describing it as “quite painful”.

“It feels like someone’s smacking your face with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it. But I would do it again, because I feel like it took five years off my face.”

As for going under the knife, Paltrow said, “I would be scared, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50”.

Tara Reid: “If I had to do it again, I never would have done it in the first place,” said the Sharknado star about her plastic surgery procedures, which include a boob job and body contouring.

“First of all, I asked for big Bs [B cups], and he did not give me big Bs,” said the actor on The View.

“He gave me Cs, and I didn’t want them. At all. Right after the surgery, I had some bumps along the edges of my nipples, but the doctor said, ‘Don’t worry. It’s going to be better.’ But after six months of ‘it’s going to get better,’ it started to get worse and worse.”

And the body contouring was a disaster as well.

“My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing,” she said.

“I had a hernia, this huge bump next to my bellybutton. As a result, I couldn’t wear a bikini. I lost a lot of work.”

Reid Ewing: The Modern Family actor (he plays Dylan on the show) recently opened up about his battle with body dysmorphia, which has resulted in several surgical procedures.

“I genuinely believed if I had one procedure I would suddenly look like Brad Pitt,” he wrote in The Huffington Post.

The first of many procedures he got was cheek implants, but he was horrified by the results.

“After all the swelling finally went down, the results were horrendous. The lower half of my cheeks were as hollow as a corpse’s, which, I know, is the opposite of what you’d expect, as they are called cheek implants. They would be more aptly called cheekbone implants.

“At the beginning of 2012, all the isolation, secrecy, depression, and self-hate became too much to bear. I vowed I would never get cosmetic surgery again even though I was still deeply insecure about my looks. It took me about six months before I was comfortable with people even looking at me.

“I wish I could go back and undo all the surgeries.”

Heidi Montag:The Hills star has had A LOT of work done. In fact, in 2010 she had 10 plastic surgery procedures in just one day.

“I disliked myself so much,” said the former reality TV personality, “I literally chopped up my own body”.

Speaking to Life & Style, Montag said, “People have fewer scars from car accidents than I have on my body. I’m always going to feel like Edward Scissorhands”.

Thankfully she’s decided to pull the pin on going under the knife, saying, “I’m just done with all of it. I’m going to age gracefully and bow out”.

Jennifer Grey: The Dirty Dancing star had a nose job in 1989, and still regrets it to this day.

“I went into the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous,” she said to The Mirror.

“It was the nose job from hell. I’ll always be this once-famous actor nobody recognises because of a nose job.”

[Blogger Shanice] Shanice X Assurance Skin, Laser & Aesthetics: Cheek Fillers Part II

$

A month after I first did my fillers, I went back for a touchup. If you’re wondering why there is a need for a touch up, now that’s because very often, the result from the initial fillers injection is contributed by both the fillers as well as the swelling of the tissue. When the swelling subsides, the augmentation result will be somewhat reduced. So, having a second touch up treatment allows the doctor to improve on and perfect the overall outcome of the fillers.

After consulting with Dr Wong, he felt that that my right cheek needed much more fillers to be injected to achieve the desired effect. As I mentioned in my previous post, my right profile is flatter than my left (sigh), which is probably why my right cheekbones require more fillers than the left. So, we decided to leave my left side untouched, and only add on a little more to my right side to balance it out.

The process is the same as the previous, but it seemed to hurt much less this time?? And I barely had any bruising! I remember my right cheekbone feeling pretty alright the next day, hardly sore at all. I was also able to see instantaneously, the obvious “lift” on my right cheekbone, much more than the previous time. I was like  woah yessssss. Hahaha.

To show the “lift”, I tied my hair up in the pictures above so you guys can see it better.

Previously, I had a flatter right cheekbone. Now both cheekbones are equally balanced yay! I also think that having a more defined cheekbone would draw the attention away from my asymmetrical jawline because if you remember what I wrote in my first post, I have more fat on the right side of my face than the left, and hence, the asymmetry. And since the problem is the fat, and not the jaw muscle, contouring of my jaw muscle would not have much of an effect to improve the symmetry of my face/achieving a sharper facial contour.

Thank you Dr Wong for making me feel so at ease from the consultation to the procedure. Like I said previously, he has such a fatherly vibe that it takes all your worries away haha. And also the lovely nurse, Marilyn, who was not only friendly but also made sure I was comfortable at all times.

Yay to having more defined cheekbones for the next 6-12 months!  (yup, that’s how long the fillers will last)

Valentine's Day Gift Can Be Such a Headache

$

Actualllly…… as cliché as it sounds,  everyday is Valentine’s if you are with your partner – non quarreling days that is. Hahaha. Not that we quarrel a lot, but trust me, days without quarrels are the best gifts ever because it releases my stress and fatigue after a long day at work.

I don’t have a specific Valentine’s Day celebration that I want but hey… I don’t mind if my other half surprises me with a puppy. HAHA. Imagine tying a ribbon on the puppy’s neck and hide it inside a box for me? HOW SWEET! Sorry but mega dog lover here!!

I don’t believe in spending a lot for gifts on that day because we may end up buying stuffs that our partner don’t really need and I see that as a waste of money! I am sorry but I got to admit that I am not a very romantic person :X Afterall, we can’t survive on romance in Singapore, can we?

I read an article on Facebook about practical girlfriend and I think they are just describing me totally.

Let me share it with you:

“Practical girls are rational beings. They deal with things logically and that includes the way they handle their emotions and the way they show their love.

When romancing a practical girl, leave out the fireworks, leave out the grand romantic gestures – I mean yeah, she’ll appreciate your effort, but that’s all it’ll do. It’s not that practical girls don’t like romance, they just value things a little differently.”

1. Don’t bother buying her flowers or anything that adds no value to her life
2. Don’t bother taking her to fancy restaurants that cost a bomb
3. If you live on the opposite side of the country, she won’t expect you to send her all the way home
4. Don’t worry about ever having to carry her handbag
5. She won’t expect you to be at her beck and call
6. Don’t expect her to be at your beck and call either
7. Somedays you’ll question if she has any emotions at all
8. Don’t expect her to agree for the sake of agreeing
9. Be ready for her to spoil the ‘moment’

If you know me well, you will know these 9 points speak me!!!

I got him a simple pair of Giorgio Armani cufflinks Valentine’s last year but I’ll make it up this year. I spent a few weeks thinking of what to get for him I thought we will not be buying each other a gift this year but he ended up getting one for me. It is hard to shop for both of us because we have everything we need and we are both very practical.

In the end, I got him something that is useful for him.

As for my present wise.. He hinted me that it is something I approved and something I randomly said it was nice before.. Mmm… Read my blog for our Valentine’s Day when next week ok? HAHA.

My Dream Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day falls on 14th February every year, best known as the day for lovers to get together. A day whereby you see hearts, red roses and cupids everywhere. Romance fills the atmosphere and turning every corner of the world in to a street in Paris, which is well-known to be the world's most romantic city.

I've never celebrated Valentine's Day before and thus never had the dream V-Day I had in mind throughout all these years. But in my heart, there is still a little space in my little girl's mind what I wanted that V-Day to be like with someone who probably will come by soon.

I'm not looking for a fairy tale to happen in my life but just simple basic sincerity will win my heart for this day. But it would be nice that these practices are not done only once a year but at times when you just want to surprise your other half because you care.

Roses, be it red, pink or any colors I guess they are the best fit in the flower variety for this day. You don't need to shower a girl with 9999 roses which cost maybe 3 times the usual price on this day but a small one with other flowers will also make her day. At least it works for me. I've envied people on instagram, facebook and girls around me receiving flowers, but never had I received one in a very LONG time... But for me, a box of flowers is what I look forward to :-D

Balloons! My favorite! Since young I felt balloons have magical powers to make me happy. I remembered my parents came home from a party and brought home a room filled with helium balloons in my room when I'm sleeping and that really made my day. I felt just MAGICAL.

Like a girl, everyone has a weak point. For me, balloons is one of them. Seeing them in exhibition, restaurants or weddings. I will nab one home secretly because they are just a simple happy pill for me. :-)

Having an unexpected food delivery to my door step of all my favourite food! That will surprise me totally, because it has been long since I ever had someone who orders food delivery secretly for me and made my day. It would be nice if that special someone had notice my liking of something and manage to arrange something for that day. Well, not too sure what I feel like eating? Then order a variety so I can choose. I don't mind wasting or sharing food to be honest.

Everyone wants a V-Day gift. And gifts are so commercialized and useless these days. Yes! If you know what I always wanted and that is a WIN-WIN situation or you chanced upon something you thing you were so attached and wanted me to own it because I was special. But to me, buying a gift for the sake of buying is not what I want. I want to feel the sincerity. Even if you bought me an oven or bedsheet and I feel that it comes from your heart. I'll be more than touched.

I don't fantasize big gifts or big dinner or lavish settings. The special one will take note of the little details and that will let cupid link our hearts together. And that's what my dream Valentine's Day is all about. Getting surprised and feeling loved :-D

My Ideal Valentine's Celebration

What is my ideal valentine's celebration? Honestly there isnt.. To me valentine's day is still special but I wont go to the extent to spend like hundreds or thousands just to celebrate it. This is the day where you will see lots of couples outside and for me I would prefer to stay at home and chill.

Oh I know already.. My ideal celebration would be to have a candlelit dinner at home. Years ago he prepared once, with pasta and cheesecake and of course wine too. We had that inside his room hahaha it was so much fun. Though the space was quite constraint adding on to the fact that we got to sit on the floor, I was still very happy about it. It was very sweet and cosy. I dont really like going out and join in the crowds. Especially now when im into photography I really hate crowd!! :'))

If only I could move in earlier then i would def celebrate at home! especially with the help of fairy lights and candles. mmm def awesome! I don’t know about you but I really like the feeling of feeling relaxed, and most importantly comfortable with my loved ones. A quiet place would be good, just us talking to each other, about life, plans and the future.

Anyway this year we already make our reservation at some italian restaurant which I probably will blog about it. Depends on the lighting! :D We got it free because of his NS thingy. Also, this is the first time we are going to a proper italian restaurant! I kinda feel weird about it because it seems very atas. Later I cannot stand up and take photos how? LOL! I don’t really go to ATAS places because it’s just not my thing. I guess you will see me at hawker more though hahaha.

Initially I wanted to have a staycation to sort of 'getaway' but I think its too late to book it now, another thing is we are getting our keys soon so its like having a staycation too hahhaa. Maybe I should décor my house like lloyd’s inn and actually that’s what I intend to do also. :p Honestly I can totally foresee my future valentine’s days man..

I don’t have any preference for valentine’s gifts as well, I don’t really want flowers because I will be very upset when they die. So no flowers for me! And I feel that it’s also a waste of money. :/

So yah! I like to have personal space, so I could talk and enjoy the moment, rather than going out just to get squeezed or pushed by other people. I guess a lot of people are like me? But of course I don’t know la. Lol!

I hope you have your valentine’s day plan out already, if not why not follow my idea? Plan a candlelit dinner at home and you will be amazed with the outcome. (I hope). :p Happy valentine’s day everyone!

7 Reasons to Have a Male Best Friend

$

People say that men and women can never be just friends. And most women have female best friends. But have you ever thought about the benefits of having a male best friend? Having a platonic male friend is not only possible, but it can be quite advantageous too.

For instance:

1. He will be honest when you want his opinion, such as if a dress fits you well or not. Men who are not sleeping with you will be more truthful and candid with you. And women tend to lie in order to protect your feelings.

2. He genuinely likes you for who you are, and not because of how you look. It is not about physical attraction, but a platonic love based on your character and personality.

3. There’s no jealousy… no boyfriend snatching or flirting. He’s not in competition with you in any way. You basically have a relationship that enables you to have fun together, as there are no ulterior motives or intense emotions.

4. He’s not clingy. Female friends tend to be more cliquey and want to do everything together. They might even take offence if you want space away from them. Men don’t have that kind of hang ups.

5. Male friends will not be bringing drama into your life. There will be less whining, and less crying.

6. Your secrets are safe. Guys do not gossip as much as women do. You can trust him with your secrets, and not worry he’ll go cackling to other women.

7. He can give you the male perspective when you need relationship advice. If you are seeking advice on understanding your boyfriend, a male friend is the one to ask.

Home-Cooked Healthy Steaks for Your Love This Valentine's

As the saying goes, ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ (though we love to argue that it applies to ladies who love food too), so ladies why not style your hair, don on the apron, and sashay your way to the kitchen in that Jimmy Choo? And isn’t it better to celebrate V day anytime this month rather than the day itself in the comfort of your house? (Valentine falls on Sunday this year, which means more crowd and longer queuing time, argh!)

Nothing beats a plate of home cooked sultry steak (with 101% love) this lovely dovely season. If you’re an amateur in cooking, fret not, MyFatPocket team has specially thrown in some love potion, and concocted this chart just for you. Get ready for a yummylicious and a healthy steak date!

Nutritional Information from USDA Standard Reference Database, Canadian Nutrient File and HPB
Based on 100 g raw beef, all grades, separable lean and far, 0” fat (otherwise stated)

Pick up these handy tips before you prepare your steak!

Go for the Right Grade & Cut

Before you decide to indulge in that piece of Prime grade beef (oh so tender, juicy and fatty!), you may want to go for either ‘Select’or ‘Choice’grades, which pack lower fat and calories, but still able to provide an enjoyable gastronomic sensation. According to the USDA , ‘Choice’grade beef is best prepared via broiling, roasting and grilling for they are tender and juicy. While, its counterpart the “Select’grade beef is leaner, and is best suited for marinating or braising.

For the cuts, try opting for lean or extra lean cuts such as eye of round roast or steak, sirloin tip side steak, top round roast and steal, bottom round roast and steak, and top sirloin steak. Just in case, you are worried about the fats, here you go from USDA: 100 g of lean beef packs 10 g of fat, and 4.5 g of saturated fat, while the same quantity of extra lean beef packs 5g of fat, and 2 g of saturated fat.

Away with Visible Fats

Remember to trim the meat off any visible fats prior to cooking, to reduce the total calories and fat content. A tension can be easily created by pinching the fats and pulling it away from the meat. This tension, then allows a sharp knife to slide easily between the meat and fat.

Cook It Right

Avoid preparing your steak by deep fat frying or pan frying because these methods add unhealthy fats (saturated and trans fat). Rather, adopt cooking methods such as baking, braising, grilling, roasting, and sautéing, which can reduce the fat, cholesterol and calories, while enhancing the nutritional value of the steak. Be sure to place the piece of steak on the rack on the baking pan if you are using the oven, so the fat from the steak will drip away.

Fill up with Fibre

Rather than standard sides such as mashed potatoes or fries, you can make your steak into a nutritious meal with some greens and fruits. The good news is, you need not stick to a certain coloured vegetable. It is advisable to mix and match and create a rainbow, for different colour greens and fruits offer different benefits, and work synergistically to enhance the overall health effect.

Although vegetables and fruits may be deemed as the healthier sides, remember not to drench your veggies in too much salad dressing (read: Ranch, Cheese sauce, or Thousand Island). Most of these sauces are high in fats and sodium, adding up to the overall calories. For instance, a tablespoon of Kraft Thousand Island Sauce packs 65 kcal, 6 g fat and 135 mg sodium.  As for fruits, go for the fresh ones instead of the canned varieties, since the canned fruits are ladled with sugars.

Not sure how to toss fruits and veggies up into a delicious side? Read this.

Avoid Salt, Create Your Own Seasoning

Try seasoning your steak with seasonings like pepper, herbs, spices, freshly squeezed yuzu juice or home-made cranberry sauce rather than salt. By doing so, you could create a much flavourful punch to your steak, whilst minimising the intake of sodium. Try these simple recipes for Cranberry Sauce, Fresh Lemon Herb Sauce, and Sweet Chilli Sauce.

How My Boyfriend and I Work Out Our Differences

$
0
0

Relationship quarrels or conflicts usually occur because of a few things; misunderstandings, expectations aren’t met and disagreement. Most of the people say there bound to be some argument in order for the relationship to be healthy, however it is also because of the same thing relationships fall apart. Remember no matter how perfectly matched you guys are, it is universally impossible (or very rare) for two people to think the same in every way.

In this article, I am going to share with you my way of dealing with the situation every time things get heated up.

• Emotions and the actual problem.
When there’s an argument, we must differentiate between our own emotions and the current situation. Anger is normal, but most of the times it is the sole reason that a casual bicker could end up World War III. When you’re affected by anger, your capability to think clearly is blurred and you forgot the most important thing then is to resolve the issue. When that happens, you start to become a little irrational and produce a lot of invalid argument which brings the situation nowhere. So what do you do?

Chill out; manage your own emotions first. Before your anger start bursting out of your head, go take a time-out to breathe and deal with the stress. When you think that you’re ready, sit down and discuss calmly. It may sound easy but when you’re caught in that exact situation it’s definitely not, the tendency to just let the anger out is pretty immense. If you manage to overcome your anger, you’ll find yourself having a hell lot of easier time solving the argument.

• Remember the most important thing is to resolve the issue, not winning the fight.
Sometimes when thing get heated up, you subconsciously want to be the one that is wins that argument. Try to keep in mind solving the issue is your only objective.

• Put yourself in your significant other’s shoes.

Try to understand the situation from his/her point of view in the fight and understand the reason for the way they are reacting or expressing themselves.

• Not all disagreement needs to be an argument.
Is this matter really worth the fight? Or it shouldn’t even be significant enough to become an argument. Try not to start a fight at every small matter, only stand your ground and make necessary argument when it’s something you feel strongly about.

• Let bygones be bygones.
In an argument, try to not bring up the past. The more you bring up the past in a quarrel the worse it gets, which will end up becoming an infinite loop of never-ending fight. So whatever happened before shall remain back then, never bring it with you. Same goes for the quarrel now, once it’s resolved, throw it out.

Of all the ways I’ve tried, the 5 listed above are the most useful ways in overcoming conflicts for me personally. These methods have not only made the relationship healthier but also make me as a better person.

Jogging Sags Our Face... True or False?

Jogging has got to be one of the most popular workout for Singaporeans. Change into your jogging gear and head out to burn off your calories and keep love handles at bay. Besides its health benefits, it is definitely one of the most convenient exercises for us since there is no need for any special equipments.

However, we have been hearing about the "Runners' Face" and that is kind of worrying. We invested tons of time and money into our anti-aging regime and now we hear that running sags our skin. That's really bad news!

Credit: Daily Mail

What exactly is a Runners' Face? "The constant up-and-down force may loosen facial ligaments and cause sagging and drooping in the cheeks, jaw, and jowls," says Dr. Julius Few, owner of the Few Institute for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Chicago and New York City. Which means, runners runs the risk of having a haggard, gaunt, and wrinkled face, and that is especially visible after the age of 35.

Credit: Rezalution Running

Although gravity and impact may cause sagging, let's not forget that aging may be caused by the sun too. Most of us run outdoors, and UV rays, which causes photaging, will leave their mark on our faces too.

So what can we do to prevent Runners' Face? If you are great fan of running and running energises you, it is best to invest in a good pair of running shoes that can help to absorb the impact. Some runners in America are using a "chin sling", a plastic face support for the face that hooks itself on your ears, to reduce facial sagging during their runs. Hmm, I'm not sure if you want to use that though.

If you are planning to give up running, look for other ways to get your cardio fix. Low impact activities like swimming or cycling will be your optimum choice.

Victoria Beckham Designed a Collection For the Modern Schoolgirl That's All Grown Up

Every season, Victoria Beckham works an element of surprise into her collection. She stays true to her signature silhouettes: tailored coats and vests, structured dresses that still show off the figure, and movable skirts that fall just below the knees so as to show off functional loafers — this season featuring slices and buckles.

But look at how she's mixed up her classic checks. They give off the illusion of pixelated prints on eye-catching midis, which don't feel too dizzy thanks to a muted color palette: olive green, deep navy blue, cranberry, and burnt orange. Then there are the playful twists. From unexpected midriff cutouts on bustiers to sweaters splashed with bandeau-like graphics, Ms. Beckham got a little psychedelic for Fall 2016 but, of course, in the most posh way possible.
  • Trends: Structured suiting, artful graphics.
  • Colors: Cranberry, olive green, navy blue, burnt orange.
  • Shoes: Buckled, pointed-toe loafers with sliced cutout uppers, square midrise boots with chunky soles.
  • Details You Might Have Missed: The slightly rugged, raw hemline on some of the tailored separates.
  • Bags: Luxe clutches — one furry one — to tote at the side as a sophisticated extension of the look.
  • Key Prints: Pixelated plaid, bustier-patterned sweaters.
  • Who Would Wear It: The sophisticated, sexy working woman.

SNSD’s beautiful legs were openly marketed by their company and their trainer even had the perfect leg ratio worked out.

The ideal Kpop leg measurement was said to be “5-3-2”:

  1. The thickest part of your leg - 5
  2. The thickest part of your calves - 3
  3. The smallest part of your ankles - 2

Long and slender legs became the representation of Korean girl groups in recent years, and with the K-wave sweeping through the globe, it wasn’t surprising the everyday girl on the street wants that coveted shape for her legs too.

Achieving the legs you want

Having a proper diet and exercising regularly will keep us in shape and help us bid goodbye to the excess fats on our legs. However, there are just those stubborn fats that refuse to bulge no matter how hard we workout or how much effort we put into spot toning. Our thighs are just not slimming down and our cellulite are still in the limelight whenever we wear shorts.

With advancements in medical aesthetics, contouring our legs are now less of a hassle. CoolSculpting, Liposonix, and HIFU may be the solution to help us end our frustrations to achieve the slender legs we want.

However, it is still advisable to seek the advice of a qualified doctor. Book an appointment with Dr. Elias Tam from EHA Clinic to see if the treatments are suitable for you, and to find out which is the right treatment to go for.

It Turns out Your Broken Heart Could Actually Kill You

Heartsickness could literally turn your heart sick.

Credit: Shutterstock

Broken heart syndrome—or stress-induced cardiomyopathy—is a real condition that can pop up in times of extreme emotional distress (like if you’re experiencing the loss of a loved one), says David Greuner, M.D., the director of NYC Surgical Associates. And it can happen even if your heart is totally healthy, he notes.

“The heart is responsive to stress hormones like adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol,” he says. “They make your heart beat faster as your body’s system gears up to perform at a super-human level.”

But these same chemicals are also released when you're anxious or heartbroken. In excess, they could make a heavy heart too heavy. “Tons of chemicals over a short period of time can lead the heart to give out because it’s been overstimulated from being in an emotional state,” says Greuner.

The symptoms of broken heart syndrome can look a lot like those linked with cardiovascular woes, he explains. Usually, we’re talking chest pain, shortness of breath, and palpitations—which can go onto heart failure and even death if not treated.

The big bummer: Broken heart syndrome is unquestionably more common in women than in men, says Greuner.

No one knows for sure why that is, he says, but it could have to do with hormonal differences—and the idea that the female body tends to be more responsive to stressors in general. (Per the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, ladies are more likely to suffer from cirrhosis—liver failure often brought about by booze—and more likely to be diagnosed with depression, according to the Mayo Clinic).

Broken heart syndrome is unquestionably more common in women than in men.

So what’s a girl to do? Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict life’s bumps in the road. What you can control: your reactions to hard times. A lot of avoiding stress-induced cardiomyopathy comes down to stress management, says Greuner.

Research suggests a fit and healthy lifestyle that's packed with exercise, fruits, and veggies can help take the edge off moments of angst and grief. But if broken heart syndrome shows us anything, it’s that your emotions are linked to your heart—and controlling them could be the ticket to protecting your ticker.

Feeling panicked? Breathe deeply, surround yourself with others, and ask yourself easy questions to bring yourself back to reality. (For more stay-calm techniques, check out six ways to calm yourself down when you start to panic.)

Well this sucks.

What I Love and Hate About Chinese New Year

$

I love Chinese New Year because it makes my parents happy! They are happy when they get to meet their entire family. They do meet up with some of their siblings once in a while but seeing the entire family for a gathering is another thing. So when my parents are happy, so am I!

As much as I hate gatherings but I love the food cooked by my aunties. They are super great cooks and I am always well fed by them. Dealing with the weight gain is the aftermath. Thank god I am not a fan of CNY goodies so I am quite safe. My only favourite snack is the Fried Crabsticks!

Most of them keep a pet dog at home so it’s like a dog-visiting for me. I am a mega dog lover so I tend to spend more time with the dogs.

I HATE gatherings at my own house though. I hate those noisy cousins aged between 5-10 because they like to mess up my house and they cry/laugh SO LOUDLY. I know I shouldn’t be saying this but I can’t stand noise. I am an introvert inside so I need peace at home. I can even lock myself in my house for a week if I need to.

I know you may wonder – But you attend a lot of events and you need to talk to different people don’t you?

Yup yup, but I usually stick and talk to people whom I am closer with. People who do not know me will find me not sociable and I am perfectly fine with that. People, who judge, will judge. Lol.

Last but not least, I love the shopping part. It is always a good excuse to shop for EXTRA new shoes, new clothes and new bags! I cap the EXTRA because I believe every girl feels the same as me – we are already shopping on normal days. Lol. However… on the contrary, I did not buy a single item for this year because I was overwhelmed with work, collaborations and events. I couldn’t afford the time to shop :(

In any case, how is your Chinese New Year celebration so far? Nothing fantastic on my end but nothing too boring either. I am just waiting for the weekends to come for another round of celebration.

The Most Outrageous Fashion Hits and Misses from the 2016 Grammys

$

Monday evening’s Grammys ceremony met plenty of shady momentslaidback catstechnical difficulties, and blazing tributes as music celebrated its finest annual accomplishments. Beyond the music and the general spectacle of the evening, fashion fans and critics will enjoy picking apart the dresses. Why? Because fashion can be a fun sport in and of itself, so lighten up, Francis. The awards don’t mean much beyond recognition, no matter what Kanye West may believe. Nor do the dresses, but they’re not pretending to hold much significance. Let’s get superficial and rundown the (arbitrarily) best and worst ensembles of the evening.

Best: Lady Gaga nailed it. We already hit upon this outfit as Gaga wafted onto the red carpet at the last possible moment, but it begs for more attention. This Bowie fashion tribute by Marc Jacobs communicates all Gaga intentions.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Ciara stood one 45-degree bend away from a wardrobe malfunction. This Alexandre Vauthier dress required all the double tape one could muster. Does an exposed pelvic bone look sexy or destroy the mystery? The bottom line here is that Ciara doesn’t look like she’s enjoying this dress at all.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Taylor Swift nabbed one of the evening’s most memorable outfits with this color-blocked Atelier Versace outfit. The design house paired a red bandeau with a high-waisted pink skirt, and Swifty went with a geometric-looking faux bob. Never fear, the longer hair will be back tomorrow.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Kaley Cuoco prompted the obvious joke from those who wonder why she appeared at the Grammys. Still, look at her expression. She looks like she wandered onto the red carpet by chance, and the sloppy, sequinned Naeem Khan jumpsuit doesn’t help matters.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Florence Welch counts as someone who consistently does not care about what people think of her style. A pink Gucci nightgown covered with stars, moons, and dragonflies? We should all be so lucky to pull off such whimsical nonsense. You gotta love it.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: The Hollywood Vampires also try to give no f*cks, but the effect doesn’t work as well here. These dudes are trying too hard to be cool, and it shows. A great deal of effort is required to pile on a million scarves and vests while trying to appear effortless. Simplify, guys.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Demi Lovato went simple and let her voice carry her evening onstage. Lovato tends to fall into 1980s, Debbie Gibson-esque fashion, but she’s found a grownup look lately. One tight black suit goes a long way to escape post Disney drama.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Ariana Grande didn’t wear a truly terrible dress, but she has chosen similar outfits so often that girlfriend needs some adventure. This valentine-y Romona Keveza dress is alright, but a little more adventure can only help.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Chrissy Teigen refused to let her pregnancy lead to bad fashion. She chose a white Yousef Al-Jasmi gown with a sparkly cape, and she accessorized with John Legend. There’s a winning combination, and if you say otherwise, Chrissy will smack you down on Twitter.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Kacey Musgraves‘ teal, purple, and blue Armani Prive ball gown may have taken too much inspiration from Katy Perry’s Prism era from two years ago. You can sort of picture Russell Brand cracking a randy joke on the sidelines, yes?

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Serayah McNeill looked absolutely stunning in this drapey Vera Wang dress with strategic openings. The one-shoulder look and the revealing leg slit brought the sultry appeal in spades. Best dress of the night? Quite possibly.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Ellie Goulding wore a dull, blush pink Stella McCartney dress. This dress didn’t carry much oomph, although some chain detailing in the back sparked interest. Ultimately, Stella dresses are usually shapeless, and this number is no exception.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Adele did well by Adele fashion standards, which weren’t amazing a few years ago. However, this Givenchy gown’s flattering silhouette lent intrigue to what could have otherwise been a basic black dress.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Janelle Monae confused folks, for who really knows what she was going for with this funky hat, black-and-white circular skirt, and matching top with lacy boots. This ensemble has too much going on at once.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Carrie Underwood‘s Nicolas Jebran gown was suitable for a variety of award shows. Perhaps it wasn’t the most Grammy-oriented look, but she pulled it off well. This dress was a little prom-y but fine.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Giuliana Rancic may have belonged to E!’s Fashion Police for years, but her fashion game isn’t superb. This gold, bejeweled ensemble tries to evoke shades of Cleopatra, which is simply a bizarre red carpet goal.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Best: Selena Gomez called this a “date” dress, which was likely an offhanded comment, but the gown itself was pretty great. Calvin Klein should be favored by more stars, for the cuts are usually flattering. Also, the dress’ sparkle factor is just right.

Credit: GETTY IMAGE

Worst: Bella Hadid attended to support The Weeknd by wearing this Alexandre Vauthier dress that required whatever double sided tape Ciara wasn’t using. The ensemble’s deep, plunging bodice was further accentuated with slits and cutouts a plenty. Far too much drama here.

The Single Social Media Move That Can Have the Biggest Impact on Your Career

$

Quick: When was the last time you checked Instagram, Facebook or Twitter? If one of your social media accounts is staring at you this very minute on your phone, I’ve made my point.

Credit: The Followers

But here’s the thing: As active as you are on social media, you’re probably not using it to its full advantage to advance your career. According to a recent Monster poll, 56% of respondents indicate they do not follow their current employer on social media.

If you're one of these people, I'd suggest you start following your company—and other companies you’d consider working for—immediately! Instead of thinking of it as a chore, think of this as a stepping stone to your next position and perhaps even a bump in cash flow.

Follow your own employer because...

You can find out what’s going on at your company—what major initiatives are being pushed and who the fast risers are with in the company—as well as how the firm is presenting itself to the world. This is particularly helpful if you feel like your job may be inconsequential to the big picture or if you feel in the dark about things going on in your company.

Credit: The Next Web

Understanding what your company prioritizes can help you rise faster in the organization. Say you’re in marketing and you see on social media that the company has put out a press release for a new product. If you think up an innovative way to get more visibility for that key product, you can make yourself—and your boss—look really good, which is a first step to the next step on the ladder. You look like someone who has their finger on the pulse.

In addition to helping you take actions that will help you ascend, following your company will help you impress your boss’ boss and other company V.I.P.s at the next company picnic, all-hands meeting or holiday party. You’ll immediately have fodder at your fingertips. Use it! Talk about a headline you recently read via a status update and make it part of the conversation. You’ll not only feel intelligent, you’ll be viewed that way, too.

Follow other companies because…

Credit: Biz 417

You’ll begin to see not only how your company fits or stands out in the field, and how all of the pieces fit together, too. And you’ll be able to be more responsive to industry trends and disruptions.

Secondly, lots of companies talk about their hiring plans on social media—so there’s that reason to follow competitors in your field.

Third, the next time you go on a job interview, the employer will likely ask what you know about the company  By following prospective employers you’ll be in the know and have stuff to say during job interviews—and networking conversations as well. You can leverage social media as your one-stop shop to do incredible research without having to go very far.

Finally social media can give you a sense of company culture at an institution you’re considering. For instance, you might be inspired to see that the company is promoting its annual volunteer day via pictures on Instagram.

In sum, while you may think of social media as a personal rather than professional endeavor, these tools offer a great way to add insight to your job search process and to your decision-making process when you receive offers. So he, next time you see an interesting opportunity on Monster, check out the employer’s social pages to see what they’ve been up to. It may just help you craft the winning cover letter that leads to your next job.

10 Traits I Look for in My Mr. Right

$

I believe most girls have a mental checklist when looking for your Mr Right, right?

Since my teenage years, some girl friends have been asking each other on what we look for in our Mr Right and how do we rank those traits, and I have heard a myriad of answers. Some people go for looks, some go for character, some go for money, some expect a Mr Perfect and some have totally no idea what they are looking out for.

For me, character is very important! I won’t know how to live the rest of my life with someone whose character is not compatible with me. What if he is dishonest, impatient and selfish? No way. What if he is impractical, immature, pessimistic and can’t get along with either of our families? It is a no go too.

Looks is just skin-deep and I’m not pretty either, so I don’t really go for looks. If my Mr Right is good looking, it is a bonus! However, I don’t want to be with someone who is shorter and smaller-sized than me, so I do have 2 points that are appearance-related, opps! I’m quite short so it is not that difficult to fulfil number 9 anyway.. :p

I’m lucky that I’ve found someone who has these 10 traits! :)

Here’s my list:

1. Caring
2. Patient
3. Honest
4. Practical
5. Optimistic
6. Mature
7. Responsible
8. Family oriented
9. Taller than me
10. Fatter than me

What’s yours?

[Editor’s Review] Svenson Hair Care - Vital Energy HairGro Treatment

$

After my consultation with Svenson Hair Care, I proceeded for my first treatment with them.

As mentioned in the consultation post, I change my hair colour monthly and I had just dyed my hair pastel pink before the first treatment. To get the pink tone I desired, my hair had to be bleached prior to applying the pink dye. I really shouldn’t have done that, but changing hair colours monthly has become a habit - no doubt, a bad one. It is a well-known fact that chemical processes are unhealthy for both the hair and scalp.

After all the damage that I put my hair and scalp through, I was glad that I was in the good hands of the experienced team at Svenson. For my first treatment, trichologist Joni recommended the Vital Energy HairGro Treatment. It is an innovative hair treatment that maximises healthy hair growth, and is scientifically proven to correct ion mobilisation and achieve cell oxygenation. Furthermore, this treatment boosts cell energy, helps to improve circulation through detoxification, and optimises cell repair.

The result? Healthier hair growth and a fuller set of hair - Which was really what I wanted.

The treatment started with a massage.

Nita was my hair therapist for the day. I told her beforehand that my hair was badly damaged and hence very brittle, and she took extra care even when she was washing my hair for me.

Look closely at how my hair strands looked like when they are wet. You may be able to tell that the strands are so thin, they tangle together really easily. Combing my wet hair is impossible, unless you do it gently with a wide-tooth comb.

I was asked to lean on a “metal plate”, where currents will pass through my body when Nita moved the handheld device on my neck and shoulders, and later my scalp. To my pleasant surprise, there was absolutely no pain!

This process helps correct ion mobilisation in our body when the frequency passes through. Cell energy will be boosted, circulation is improved, and cell repair is optimised.

If you are always having chemical processes done on your hair, just like me, it would be wise to do hair and scalp treatments for healthy hair growth and a fuller set of hair. Don’t wait till it’s too late!

This Is How Many Women Watch Porn Every Week

$
0
0

Women love porn. We need to accept it. We need to embrace it, because it's just a fact. Luckily, there does seem to be an increased awareness about women and porn in recent times. In fact, Marie Claire recently released a survey of over 3,000 readers to look at women and porn. Some of the information is no surprise to those interested in female porn-viewing — the fact that straight women often prefer lesbian pornography, or that women are far more likely to seek out BDSM or group sex in pornography than men, has been covered before.

But this survey provides a more comprehensive look at the entire experience ― issues like why we watch porn, how we do it, and how it makes us feel. I love this idea. As someone who masturbates every day and watches porn very, very regularly, it was nice to hear I'm not alone. Nearly a third of women surveyed reported watching porn every week — and 10 percent watch it daily. You can see why Marie Claire launched the survey, as well as its umbrella project, The Porn Project. So many of us are doing it, so let's see what's actually happening.

1. We're Watching It For Us, And Not For Our Partners

There's a myth of women reluctantly watching porn because her partner is into it. Not true. Only 12 percent reported only watching porn with a partner. Everyone else who watched did so solo, or sometimes solo and sometimes with their partner.

2. It's Not Just Traditional Porn

The majority of people sought out internet porn, unsurprisingly. But 40 percent said they used erotic stories, and six percent said they used audio porn.

3. We're Watching It On Our Phones

WHY? Sixty-two percent reported watching porn on a smartphone, and I just don't get it. Aren't you using your hands for something else!? Call me old-fashioned, but I like a laptop or an iPad. I once had a nearly-broken iPad that only had porn and 30 Rock episodes still working. It was my happy place.

4. We're Conflicted

There were a lot of different reasons people felt ambivalent about porn. For those who were conflicted, 56 percent said they were concerned about how women in the industry are treated and the general perpetuation of negative stereotypes. Nineteen percent said they feel like they shouldn't "need it," and 35 percent didn't like the way men confused porn and real sex.

5. And Too Many Of Us Are Embarrassed

I found this upsetting. For people who were conflicted, 41 percent said that watching porn was something they didn't want anyone to know about, and 20 percent said it made them embarrassed and ashamed. With the huge percentage of women who love porn, it's really terrible that so many are embarrassed and ashamed of it.

We're taught it's a normal part of male sexual health, but that it makes women either dirty or nymphomaniacs. It's really effing crappy, but it's also ridiculous, considering how many of us are watching it. It's just as normal for us as it is for men, and if you have an issue with people watching porn, it should be equally applicable to everyone.

6. But We Don't Think It Has A Negative Effect On Our Sex Lives

Despite being embarrassed, most of us don't think it does any harm — 76 percent thought it had no negative effect on their dating or sex lives. For those who did think there was a negative effect, most said it was because their partner had certain expectations about their looks or sexual behaviors which they felt came from porn.

7. It's A Learning Tool

Fifty-one percent that porn had taught them about sex, while 29 percent said it made them feel sexy.

8. But Mostly ... It's A Quick Way To Orgasm

Although those benefits are great, and I certainly love pornography, let's be real: 73 percent said they watched porn because it was a quick way to orgasm. Amen, sisters.

The shirtdress is always fool-proof. Stylish yet casual for your laziest days.

Get yourself a flare denim skirt if you haven't, we are seeing quite a lot of them. And by the way, the '90s choker is back!

Relax in a soft, floral jumpsuit. And white sneakers never goes wrong.

We are seeing a lot of lace this season and this is definitely a romantic piece in a flattering cut.

Make a statement with asymmetrical hemlines and colour blocking.

Are you one of those who goes onto a flight in your sweat pants and sweat shirt? Take a cue from Jacelyn's airport fashion! A hat will definitely help keep messy hair out of sight when you reached your destination.

On point with her bell bottoms. The necklace added bonus points for sure.

A long tunic layered over top and shorts adds a twist to the usual boring dresses. Love the contrast of the black heels.

Who said that big tulle skirts are only reserved for special occasions?

A simple outfit with the correct accessories makes the look pop. Gladiator heels are still in trend, and its not too late to invest in a pair.

All black never goes wrong. We are seeing tie up shoes again and its so sexy to show that little bit of skin with a sleek silhouette.

Big sleeves screams Spring/Summer 2016. And its the second time we are seeing chokers in this article so what does that say?

Celestina looking elegant in a A line mini dress and the leather collar adds a unique touch. Box bags are definitely in this year.

The simple black dress is no longer boring with tulle added to its ends. Always look out for little details on simple outfits.
