If you are still not sure of what should go into your Easter basket, read on for more bunny’s tips.

Go for Quality and Not Quantity

Researchers from  Cornell University found that when customers were offered all-you-can-eat buffet at either $4 or $8, and then evaluated their meal on a 9 point scale their first, middle and last bite of the food, those who paid the higher price enjoyed their food 11% more. Not only that, but those who paid the cheaper buffet were more likely to feel that they overate and felt guiltier about the meal.

For this Easter, trick your mind into pleasure eating by paying more and get a smaller quantity of artisan chocolate rather than the mass produced ones. The more superior the chocolate, the more you will savour each mouthful. When you take time to really relish the flavours, it reduces the rate at which you eat, and this equates to eating less and less calories.

Choose Dark Chocolate over Milk or White Chocolate

Fancy the white chocolate or a piece of milk chocolate, because they taste sweeter than dark chocolate (and Easter shouldn’t be a bitter season though!)? Well, the truth is, you might be better off opting for the latter. White or milk chocolate not only lack the various heart healthy polyphenols in dark chocolate, but can also pack a hefty amount of calorie and sugar. This could send your blood sugar on a roller coaster ride.

 Credit: Theaestheticsurgeon

To reap the benefits of dark chocolate, be sure to choose one with 70 percent or more cacao (which has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce risk of heart disease). Remember the first ingredient on the label should contains the wording “cocoa”and not sugar. Try dark chocolate with nuts of any kind, for additional protein, which promote satiety, and reduce your chances of popping in more chocolate.

Despite being healthier than white or milk chocolate, it still wise to practise moderate eating. Just because it's healthier doesn't mean you can eat an entire tonne of it

Do Hollow Chocolate Bunny and Not Milk Bunny

It might be difficult to resist the urge to sink your teeth into solid milk bunny on Easter. However, this seemingly harmless bunny can in fact exceed your energy needs for two or more meals. For instance, 1 Reese Reester Peanut Butter Bunny packs 798 calories, along with 42 g fat, and 75.6 g sugar (that’s insane).  Instead, indulge in a lighter treat with a hollow chocolate bunny like the ones from Palmer ( 260 calories, 16 g fat, 30 g sugar), which is healthier (lower calories, fat and sugar) than the regular milk ones, without compromising the taste and pleasure.

Well, if you think that it doesn’t feel like Easter anymore without solid milk bunny, you can still go for it. Remember to practise portion control, such as eating the ear rather than the whole bunny.

Away with Hard Candies

Hard candies can burden the teeth, as there is a high tendency for it to be sucked on at a relaxing pace for an extended period. “Hard candy coat the teeth with sugar, and produce acid when the bacteria comes into contact with sugar in the mouth. This ultimately leads to tooth decay’, says Dr. Linda Vidone, a paediatric dentist in Massachusetts. Additionally, biting on the candy might increase the chances of breaking or chipping the teeth. If you do not wish to end up as a toothless bunny, then it might be smart for you to ditch the hard candies this Easter.

Share the Joy

Above all, don’t be a greedy bunny and share your treat with your loved ones. You could get to try different varieties of treats, and prevent yourself from feeling jerlak from stuffing the entire treat to yourself. The bonus is, you get to share the calorie load with the other bunnies.

It usually takes a lot for a girl to chop off her long locks to something shorter, let alone a boyish crop. But Go Joon Hee proved that one can still look feminine and chic with a boyish haircut, especially when it is done with the correct styling and a touch of good fashion sense.

Anyone here game to snip away their hair already?

Bulletproof Your Heart

We all know that relationships аrе like an invеѕtmеnt. Thе mоrе уоu рut in, the mоrе you can get bасk. But the more you give and not hold back, the more vulnerable you will become. Here are ways to bulletproof your heart, until you are sure that he’s worth giving your heart to.

Don’t get too physical too soon
No one is asking you to be a frigid old maid, but have some sense of self worth when it comes to your body. Many girls make the mistake of jumping into bed easily because they peg their sense of attractiveness on how sexually attractive they can be or they like him so much that they want to hurry the relationship to an intimate (and in her mind, more serious/committed) level. But to many guys, this is either a turn off, or a sign that you just want casual sex. It won’t get you the kind of commitment you desire. Sex should not precede the commitment and magic of falling in love! If you have sex with him and then have to wonder after... what are we? Then it was too soon!

Don't spend too much money on him.
Yes, it’s okay to go dutch, or better still, take turns paying for dates. But do not splurge on some guy you hardly know. Many girls, myself included, have splurged on guys we were interested in because we felt like we had something to prove. For me, because I’ve dated older guys (some very rich), people always peg me for a gold digger, so I go out of my way when dating someone new to show them, hey, I’m not the kind that relies on guys to pay for stuff. Then I reach for the bill, again and again… not realising that shitty guys stick around solely to milk it. I’ve paid for holidays, expensive dinners, and even staycations… on men who did not deserve it. When you spend too easily, too soon, you attract the wrong kind.

Get involved with him
Sоmе new couples start getting into a relationship without trulу relating tо еасh other or getting to know each other. While it mау ѕееm perfect оn thе surface, the lack оf involvement аnd соmmuniсаtiоn increases diѕtаnсе in the future. The thrill of seeing often and the dumb smile you have on your face when you think of him… won’t last forever.. and then neither will your relationship. So get involved and really know him.

Don’t lose your interests
When you’re in a relationship, don’t neglect your friends and your hobbies. Keep those things alive. Nо оnе реrѕоn can meet all of оur nееdѕ, аnd еxресting tоо muсh frоm him саn рut a lot of unhеаlthу рrеѕѕurе оn a rеlаtiоnѕhiр. Hаving friends аnd оutѕidе intеrеѕtѕ not only ѕtrеngthеnѕ уоur ѕосiаl nеtwоrk, but bringѕ nеw inѕightѕ аnd ѕtimulаtiоn to the rеlаtiоnѕhiр, tоо.

Communicate
Speak the truth and also remember to listen. By that I mean listen to not only what he says but the subtle cues he gives with body language and his actions. Are you a priority in his life? Does he see a future with you? Are you both in this just for some fun? Whatever the situation, it’s fine… as long as you listen, and you speak the truth so that you both are on the same page when it comes to this relationship. There is no point duping yourself or making excuses for his shitty actions simply because you are in love with the idea of being with a guy like him. Speak up! And Listen! That good, honest and open style of communiсаtiоn iѕ a fundаmеntаl раrt оf a hеаlthу relationship.

Bulletproofing your heart dоеѕn’t hаvе to be аѕ hard аѕ most реорlе think it iѕ!

How to Get Out of a Rut

$

Chances are you'll hit a mental wall at some point. Here's how to smash it!

1. Surprise Yourself

It doesn't have to be rock climbing, but it's good to try a new activity. How will you know if you like something unless you try it? Team up with a girlfriend and go for the unexpected - at best you'll love it, at worst you'll have a good laugh.

2. Get a New Kit

Throw out these baggy sweats and old running shoes. I used to wear XXL men's T-shirts to the gym, until I realised they made me look three times larger than I actually was! As superficial as it sounds, if you feel that you look good, it will improve your performance. Plus, running shoes wear out according to how much you use them.

PS: I have an obsession for gym-wear. Take me out to the shops I’ll bound to gravitate towards the sporting store! Oops!

3. Do the Food Thing

Don't panic and start crash dieting if results are slow to come - eating too little is never a good solution. I have done it countless times and, yes, I lost weight short term but it crept back on - it always does. Resist the temptation and focus on your long-term health instead.

4. Give Yourself a Break

Putting pressure on yourself to lose 2-5kg by next week is setting yourself up for failure. As annoying as it is, it's totally normal to plateau a few months into a health regime. Trust the process and stick with it - this is not the time to quit!

9 Essential Décor Items for Your Office

In The Office, regional manager Michael Scott gathers his entire staff every Monday to watch a movie. When corporate finds out, he defends his actions by claiming it increases staff productivity; they now have to work faster to make up for the time lost spent watching the movie. There’s no need to resort to these drastic procrastination tactics to boost your work productivity, when simply updating your office décor will do. Having a comfortable and stimulating work space can not only improve one’s output but also one’s happiness in the office.

Here are a 9 essential office décor items:

1. LED lamps

Credit: Gui Guy

Dim lighting can lead to issues such as eye strain, drowsiness, and lack of focus. LEDs produce a clean, bright light that can mimic natural sunlight. Sunlight provides benefits such as boosting overall mood and promoting better sleep habits. So for those with little to no access to windows, this is a great alternative to battling with your coworkers for that window seat.

2. Ergonomic chairs

Credit: My Decorative

As a working professional spending hours sitting at the desk, having supportive and comfortable seating is critical. Investing in suitable chairs will benefit you by preventing spinal issues and chronic discomfort.

3. Organizational items

Credit: andreabcreative

Keeping your work area tidy and organized will help reduce distractions and increase efficiency. Using file folders and letter trays prevent time wasted searching for documents and reference material. While functional, they don’t need to be those boring, standard-issue black trays. Office supply and container stores now carry them in bold colors and prints. You can even DIY your own using spray paint.

4. Memo board

Credit: East2Eden

Taking a cue from Pinterest, memo boards are a great way to post your favorite inspirational quotes, jokes, and Post-it note reminders. They provide inspiration and motivation during stressful projects and aid in keeping you organized.

5. Plants or terrariums

Credit: CIPHR Blog

Studies have shown that having living plants boost productivity and workplace satisfaction. They also provide a pop of color in an otherwise monochrome, indoor environment. There are a number of plants well suited for indoor offices and require little upkeep. The most popular ones being succulents and air plants. Or if you really lack that “green thumb”, terrariums filled with dried moss are an alternative.

6. Photos and digital picture frames

Credit: Pinterest Career girl Daily

Personal photos can help relieve stress and reduce negative thoughts on those hectic and manic days. If you’re tight on desktop space, consider a digital picture frame. They’re capable of displaying photos from your phone, storage device, and even from your social media accounts.

7. Calendars

Credit: Etsy

Yes, your phone or computer can display the date and time, but art calendars are an excuse to inject more of your personality and style into your work space. Like any calendar, they help keep you organized and provide reminders for future events.

8. Scent diffusers or sprays

Credit: Westin Store

This can be a tricky one so please be considerate of your fellow coworkers. Aromatherapy can be a powerful tool in managing your mood. Bright, invigorating scents such as citrus and rosemary stimulate your brain and fight fatigue. Others such as lavender and jasmine are more calming. If none of those work for you, then there’s always bacon!

9. Paint or colored backdrop

Whether through paint, paper, or fabric accents, changing the overall color of your office can help boost your productivity and attitude. Research has shown green provides a relaxing atmosphere whereas yellow stimulates and promotes creativity.

Hopefully with the addition of these essential décor items, not only will your productivity improve but your workplace satisfaction as well. Having an enjoyable working environment can contribute to a person’s efficiency just as much as providing the needed software or resources. Otherwise you might end up leading an Office Space-like revolt yourself. So go ahead and treat yourself to that red stapler.

If I’m given the choice to pick any career I want in the world right now, I’d choose to be a café owner…and yes, dog-friendly!

A house filled with lovely aroma of gourmet coffees and serving delicious homemade bakery/sandwiches while playing continuous tracks of calm and tranquilizes music at the right volume. I can’t think of any other better than having your own dream café.

Although this may sound naïve or inexperienced so just humor me or at least bear with me! I want to design my café in a way where the ambience is cozy enough to emanate an “ultimate relaxation vibe” so they can enjoy tranquility or chill with their coffee in the most loosen up mood.

My menu will display a wide array of breads and pastries. My barista and waiter/waitress is gon’ be super laidback and cool to boost the awesome vibe flowing around the coffee house. I want the café to be a place where my customers will be in their highest state of relaxation while enjoying their book, gathering with friends, discussing of political issues?? And hey, you know what the best part is? Discount on a tray of espresso shots every Friday night because TGIF! Who needs alcohols right?

But all in all, without all the jokes, being a café owner is really my dream career. I have been to numerous cafes and each various styles fascinate me, I was intrigued by all the different designs and the different unique taste of coffee each barista brewed. Thus, if I have a chance to pick a career of my choice right now.

Can You Find Love on Tinder? Let's Find Out!

$

If you are as slow as I am and still not sure about what Tinder is, it is basically a dating app that is location-based, and pulls up "matches" that meet your criteria settings. You swipe right for "yes" if you like them, and left for "no" if you don't. If if both parties swiped "yes", you can then message each other and meet up. It can be really addictive albeit being a little shallow, but we do see many successful love stories from Tinder too isn't it?

We are very happy to have Jeremy and Janelle, who are both dating app users onboard with us to share their experiences on Tinder and other dating websites. So how was the Tinder experience for them? Any creeps out or weirdos out there? And how awkward were their meetups? Let's find out.

Jeremy

Jeremy, 29, is the founder and CEO of Sangha Teahouse in the US, and a PhD holder from Duke University.

How did you get started on Tinder?

When you are single and not meeting a lot of people, Tinder is actually a great way to meet new people. It increases the chances of maybe meeting the right one.

So is Tinder the only dating app you are using?

There's another one that isn't really an app, but an online site that is called OK Cupid. You just need to swipe left and right based on the profile photos and OK Cupid is a website, where you can create a whole profile. You get to see the whole profile of other users and know more about them. You can message people directly on OK Cupid, but with Tinder, both parties need to swipe "yes" on each other before it comes up as a match. Only then can you can message each other.

Do you do meet ups with people you meet on Tinder or OK Cupid then?

I don't think I met up with anyone on Tinder but I did meet some people from OK Cupid.

How was it like?

It's really awful, I hated it. Most of my friends are on it, and we always joke about how awful it is. It's just psychologically weird, because you create a profile the way you wanted to portray yourself online, and then when you meet up with the person for the first time, it's weird and you are not really yourself. It's uncomfortable. The best way to fall in love with somebody will be like a natural way, like how you meet someone at the library or at the grocery store for example. That just don't happen that much anymore!

What do you say when you message someone on Tinder or OK Cupid for the first time?

It's not easy to decide what to say in the first message, because it has got to be interesting! It's even worse than approaching someone face to face because there is body language and eye contact when you meet someone, but there's only text when its taken online. You only have one chance to be interesting and enticing at whatever you are saying, to make an impression.

So do you have to think through a lot and edit your first message many times before sending it out?

Oh yes! On any given message that I send to someone, I'll sit there for like 15mins. "Should I say this? Should I put a smiley face?" You want to be friendly, but not come across as being too eager.

Are there people who don't reply, or ladies who are too eager?

Oh yes, all the time. Very dissapointing especially when you are really interested in someone! And yes there are ladies who seemed too eager and then usually I'll just not reply. So I guess guys will do the same thing too.

No comfortable matches with anyone so far?

Yes sometimes, but most are just not so good. And this is true both for guys and for girls I would say. Or perhaps even more so more girls, since they have to deal with a lot more douchebags.

Any hot ladies you met?

Well, yes sometimes. But they may not be a good match intellectually or on is the same wavelength. But if you are looking for people just for looks, I guess Tinder is the better one because you decide whether to give a yes or a no based on looks, whereas OK Cupid is more like who this person is.

So do you all keep in touch after the meet ups?

It totally depends on the meetups! Sometimes you meet up with somebody and you can tell that you both get along really well, but there is no romantic spark. And in that case sometimes we will stay friends. Usually if you live in a smaller city like I do, you end up seeing them all around town and its awkward.

Have you ever met girls who looked really different from their profile photos?

Oh yes, almost 95% of time! They always looked better in the photos. You can kind of guess it if the photo is only from shoulders up, to hide the body, or if her photos are always taken at an angle, like the best pretty angle kind of thing.

Have you ever had guys asking you out?

You can state your preference and Tinder won't show you any guys. But on OK Cupid, anybody can message you. I haven't got any guys messaging me yet, and I'm not against it but no, I wouldn't go out for a coffee with them.

So is there anyone that you got into a romantic relationship with?

Personally no, but I do know of people who are in successful relationships through dating apps.

Any advice for fellow Tinder users who are looking for romantic relationships?

Oh yes, my advice is to just leave the app (laughs)! I mean I don't think it is worth it. I think it is so much better when you can meet somebody in person, the natural way, because it just feels so artificial, and just not very genuine!

Janelle

Janelle, 26, who would prefer to stay anonymous, is a professional in the sales industry.

How did you get started on dating apps?

I started on my first dating app through my ex-colleague. She was single and she told me that she met a nice Australian guy who is now currently her boyfriend! It has been 3 years since they met.

So do you have a choice to adjust the settings on the app so that it will allow you to meet foreigners? Or do you only get to meet Singaporeans?

You can adjust the settings and set the distance, or the "catchment area". So you can set it to nearby, or really far away.

So did you also start with Tinder?

Oh no, my first app was called Love Struck. It was a paid dating app and you have to pay a subscription fee to use it. The subscription fee wasn't cheap and I thought that if people were willing to pay for it, they wouldn't be just looking for sex! So I was hoping that people were more genuine there.

What kind of people did you meet on Love Struck?

Usually I only exchange my LINE contact with them because I don't like giving strangers my personal number. But my problem is, whenever I talk to people for a period of more than 2 weeks, I start to get bored! (laughs) Either that or I'll start to feel that there's something about him that I didn't like, and then I'll slowly drift off. In fact, I only met one person on Love Struck. I just decided that I shouldn't chat with him on LINE so much but just do a meet up. So this guy that I met up with was a banker in his early thirties and I felt that we had no chemistry at all.

Credit: English Spectrum

No second or third meeting after that?

Oh no, in fact, the first meeting only lasted for 45mins and I already wanted to leave! The best part of the story was that when the bill came, I politely offered to go dutch. He calculated down to the very cent! We only had drinks and shared some french fries. He divided the bill by two and it came up to around $17++. So I gave him $20 and asked him to keep the change.

Did you meet any other people on other dating apps or websites?

I got to know about Ok Cupid through my sister's friend, who met her now husband there. My sister suggested that I should try it out too since I'm single anyway. Day 1 on the app and I met a number of creepy people looking for sex!

How did they approach you? Or what did they say in their message?

Some don't even have to mention sex explicitly and you can tell. You just take a look at their profile picture. If you cannot see his face, but only his perfect body with 6 packs, you should watch out. Another type would be those who look super handsome in their photos, and after talking to them for a while they will ask if you are wiling to be in an open relationship.

How do you define an open relationship?

It just means that it is not a serious relationship, or more like friends with benefits.

So you stopped meeting people on Ok Cupid after that?

I did, I met another one who was my neighbour in the same estate. But nothing really happened after that though. It was quite awkward when we bump into each other at Jack's Place when we both were there eating with our own families. And it happened that our parents knew each other! We couldn't quite believe it! And we were just standing there looking at each other and saying hi in the most awkward manner.

Are there any who turned into friends after that?

That neighbour of mine became my friend after that, and he's the only one.

Credit: Elite Daily

Have you ever made the first move on a guy? Or do the guys always message you first?

If they are very handsome then I'll make the first move (laughs). But you know, if the person is very handsome, they wouldn't be on the app in the first place!

But since we are on that, I think its worse for guys, because the girls will always photoshop or Meitu their photos, and they can look really different in real life. My neighbour told me he wanted to drive off when he saw the girl, who looked really different from her photo.

Are you still on the app now?

No, I deleted it months ago!

Advice for fellow app users?

You must be open and give yourself opportunity to meet new people, otherwise it can be hard to meet new people once you start working. I'll still encourage my  friends who are single to give it a shot since there are so may success stories. It may not work for me but who knows it may work for others!

Why We're Crushing on Malia Obama

$
0
0

In the year that she is set to leave her family's White House home, Malia Obama has become a girl to watch. At 17 years old she has that hi-low look nailed, knows her stuff when it comes to cutting-edge music and her college choices lead us to believe she's also churning out some impressive grades, never mind providing linguistic support to her father. See the 10 reasons why we are obsessing over the first daughter here:

1. She's Already Had The Coolest Job...

Malia may not have even left high school yet but she's already held an enviable position. At just 16, she spent last summer interning on the set of Girls. Her duties included doing the coffee run and controlling the crowds.

2. She's A Gifted Linguist...

Her father might be the most powerful man in the world, but during their trip to Cuba the president relied on his daughter’s linguistic prowess. While she might not be quite fluent, the president confessed to ABC News that: "her Spanish is much better than mine". We are guessing that you can also find "Translator to the president of the United States during the historic trip to Cuba" on her ever-expanding CV.

3. She's Always Showing Sister Solidarity...

Like any teen sisters it is likely that 17-year-old Malia and 14-year-old Sasha are not always the best of friends, but when it comes to showing up for snoozy state events or presidential appearances you can guarantee to see the pair giggling, gossiping and even taking selfies. Sibling squad goals.

4. She's Got The Hi-Low Mix Nailed...

While she might have rocked a $20,000 Naeem Khan gown to The White House earlier this month, Malia is no fashion snob and is often spotted in high-street favourites. Pick up this dress she wore in Cuba now, £28 at ASOS

5. She Gets The Tech Struggle...

Earlier this year, Malia's parents revealed that she and her sister are less than happy with the Wifi at the White House, aka their family home. The social-media struggle is universal.

6. She's Up On Music...

In this photo booth-style selfie, Malia is seen posing in a Pro Era tee. Not up on your Hip Hop troops like the first daughter? Pro Era are a Brooklyn-based collective including Joey Bada$$ and CJ Fly. Imagine the White House situation when the Obama parents are out, baseline beats blearing.

7. She Loves A Festival...

Malia celebrated the summer of 2014 with pals at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival. Fellow revellers were keen to get selfies with the playsuit-wearing 16 year old who also took to social media to reveal that there were bodyguards galore. No early curfew applied, Malia stayed dancing until the curtain went down on the final act.

8. She's BFFS With Her Dad...

Malia's dad, aka Barack Obama, aka the American president, has not been shy in telling the world how sad he will be when she flies the nest at the end of the summer. The leader of the free world confesses to often breaking down in tears. Too cute!

9. She's Sensible About College Applications...

Not settling on her first choice or the ones nearest to her parents home, Malia has taken on a country-wide search for the perfect college for her studies. She has visited most of the Ivies (clever girl) and a bunch of others on the East Coast in the last few months, but most rumours suggest she will enrol at NYU.

10. She's A Fangirl...

At a recent state dinner, Malia proved that she is as much of a dorky fangirl as we would be if we were to bump into Ryan Reynolds at our home (imagine!), or maybe she was just jealous that Sasha was taking up too much Ryan time...

We Found It: A New Game for Your Dog!

For those of you who run out of ideas to have a merry good time with your doggies, hooray you are in the right place now. If you ever imagine doing Yoga with your four-legged friends, imagine that no more, you can make it into a reality today with DOGA. Remember to prepare a set of lululemon suit for your doggies alright?

So What Exactly is DOGA?

DOGA literally means the practice of doing Hatha yoga with your beloved pooches. This health regimen isn’t a new age fitness option in the dog-sphere. In fact, it originated in Florida in 2001 when yoga instructor Suzi Teitelman found her cocker spaniel, Coali would climb on to the mat with her whenever she was practising. She then slowly engaged him into her regular practices and this eventually gave birth to DOGA.

Types of Lessons

DOGA can be practised in 2 different ways, depending on the preference of the instructor or owner. The first way requires the dog owners to help their pooches to achieve the DOGA poses. This serves as a great bonding session for the two.

alt

The second way allows the pooches to mill around while their humans perform the yoga poses. This provides the pooches a great socialising experience with their own kind.

Can My Dog Do Doga?

You can incorporate dogs of any sizes into your usual yoga regimen. With that being said, it may be easier for smaller dogs to rest on your lap and back. While for larger dogs, it may be wise (and less draining) to let them stay close to you, or mingle around with their furry friends while you perform the yoga poses.

So How Do I Do Doga?

Before beginning DOGA, it is essential to note that DOGA isn’t about forcing your pooch into supernatural poses (warrior pose). In fact, it’s simply starting your yoga practice as you normally would, and then encourage your little ones to participate as they become more curious.

Here are some simple DOGA poses which you can do with your pooches at the comfort of your home.

9 + 1 Reasons Why Everyone Needs to Watch 'Descendants of the Sun'

$

By now, every K-drama and K-pop fan might have heard of ‘Descendants of the Sun’. The KBS2 drama, starring Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, has just started to air from February 24, and has already been making headlines almost everyday for its cast, plot and related events.

If you have not watched it yet, here are the reasons why you better don’t miss it:

1. SONG JOONG KI’S FIRST DRAMA AFTER MILITARY SERVICE

‘Descendants of the Sun’ is Song Joong Ki’s first comeback project after he completed his mandatory military service. After nearly two years of absence, fans can finally see him again. What more can you expect from this mature and talented actor in this hit drama?

2. SCRIPTWRITER OF HIT DRAMAS

If you are a past fan of hit dramas ‘Lovers In Paris’, ‘Secret Garden’ or ‘The Heirs’, you will be pleased to know that ‘Descendants of the Sun’ is written by the same scriptwriter, Kim Eun-sook! Expect nothing lesser than a fulfilling and interesting plot!

3. DRAMA THAT HAS OSTS SMASHING CHARTS

OST smashing after OST. In fact, right from the first OST release up to the present fifth release, all of them have been sweeping the Korean charts. What more can you expect from a Korean drama completed with OSTs that have been smashing music charts? Listen to all of them here – ‘Descendants Of The Sun’ OSTs

{youtube}aE0eV2YR51k{/youtube}

4. FIRST KOREAN DRAMA TO BE AIRED IN SOUTH KOREA AND CHINA AT THE SAME TIME

A special characteristic is – this drama is 100% pre-produced, unlike the traditional method where shows are produced on an episode-by-episode basis to allow for later adjustments. Hence, the pre-produced method allows the possibility of this drama to be aired in South Korea and China simultaneously. Anything that is the first is usually the best, don’t you agree?

5. TOO POPULAR UNTIL CHINA HAD TO ISSUE NATIONWIDE WARNING

Getting China to be concerned and issue warning to its citizens because of the popularity of the dream, there must be solid substance in the cast and plot. Dare yourself and watch this drama that actually caused a powerful nation to be concerned about!

6. FILMING TOOK PLACE IN GREECE

Greece has just only recently opened up to Korean dramas when it first aired ‘I Miss You’ back in 2013. Yet for this drama, apart from Seoul, Greece has been chosen as the sole overseas shooting location, where the cast and production team stayed for about a month. With a lot of filming in this beautiful European country, this factor is self-explanatory!

7. SONG JOONG KI’S DEDICATION TO CARRY ON FILMING DESPITE ‘SERIOUS’ INJURY

Unfortunately, Song Joong Ki sustained serious knee injury during filming. The accident happened because he wanted to shoot his own stunt. As he was expected to require at least eight weeks to recover, he surprised everyone when he went back to work just after two short weeks.  This is pure dedication, and solid proof that he put his heart and soul (and body) to this production.

8. HIGH CONFIDENCE IN DRAMA EXPORT BY JAPAN BUYERS

After the drama moved off to a phenomenal start in both Korea and China, Japanese buyers immediately placed it at the top of their list. The competition then led to such a high price of $100,000 per episode. This finally helped Korea to gain back traction to bring its shows back into Japan once again after nearly three years due to the rise in anti-Korean sentiment and previous poorly received dramas. With high confidence in the export of the drama by industry watchers after nearly three years, fans can be sure that this is not just another ordinary Korean drama!

9. MANY OVERSEAS PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES

As this drama is pre-produced, it may seem that there will be a lot of promotional activities, since the actors and actresses are available to travel and promote freely without being tied down to filming schedule. True enough, Song Joong Ki is already confirmed to hold fan meeting in China, as well as Hong Kong with Song Hye Kyo. Fans can certainly expect more promotional activities to roll out soon!

+ 1 : THAILAND URGES CITIZENS TO WATCH

This may come unusual to everyone, but Thailand’s former army-chief-turned-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha recently called on citizens to watch the drama during an official government function. The reasons are mainly “they have inserted a sense of patriotism, sacrifice, obeying orders and being a dutiful citizen”. However, he disapproved captain Yoo Shi Jin (played by Song Joong Ki), citing one and only reason that he is too good looking with his boyish look. He firmly believes that “in real life, a captain must shoulder a lot of burden and would look older.”

The No Makeup Girl Wore Makeup for a Week

I hold the motto, “life is a party, experience everything once in life”close to my heart. That may explain why Iam constantly experimentingwith my hairstyle (hip length to shoulder to bob to pixie), feasting on exotic food (black pudding, haggis, ox testicles) and even signed up for a matchmaking session with a friend, all for sheer fun.

Credits: Pinterest, Goods.ie, Prettynotplastered.com

Despite this, I realised I din experiment much with make-up (probably due to my non-existence skills). Thus, when the editor approached me about this makeup experiment, I totally had no reservations.

What better way to learn some new skills and empower myself in this month dedicated to Ladies right? Besides, I only need to wear makeup for a week, with more being added each day. How hard could be it be?

 [Day 1, 14 March 2016]: Foundation

Okay, this is easy, I just need to pile on my trusty BB cream and TA DAH, flawless complexion. Not much difference from my no-makeup face, just that I feel a shade whiter. And my sentiment was confirmed by one of the colleagues, who asked me “why do I look so fair”on the day itself (Embarrassed much).

[Day 2, 15 March 2016]: Blusher + Eyebrow

Dabbed on some light blusher today, and if you noticed there’s more colour and definition to my brows. Thanks to the editor who drew my brows. Truthfully, this is the first time that my brows are being drawn, and man do I feel weird seeing my own reflection in the mirror. It’s like female version of Crayon Shinchan waving back at me.

[Day 3, 16 March 2016]: Eyeliner

Okay, this is the most tedious day out of the 5 days. Because, I have to draw my own brows and eyeliner (for the very first time). Struggled a little with the application, and I can’t help feeling irritated with the constant smudging of my eyeliner. That explains why I ended up with undulated eyeliner, and short eyebrows. Not forgetting that, I have to clean my eyes area diligently before sleep. Hulk mode on.

Met up with my friend who is a freelance MUA cum photographer, and she couldn’t stop laughing at my eyeliner. Anyway, managed to dig some eyebrow & eyeliner application techniques from her.  And that’s when I learnt about angle measurement to get the perfect brow and blush (sounds like a mathematics lesson for me).

[Day 4, 17 March 2016]: Eyeshadow

It doesn’t bothers me much if you didn’t notice the shimmery around my eyes area, because I’m definitely loving my look today. Somehow adding eyeshadow brightens up my sleepy eyes, and for the first time I feel that make up is NOT a chore for me. For I realised that it adds vibrancy to my face, and I don’t look like some sickly girl in my photos (like I used to do). Don’t believe? Look at this fun shot we took for our company magazine that day.

Do you spot any sick girl?

Met up with my ex-colleagues in the evening, and the Vietnam boy said he didn’t even notice my make-up. Oh well (roll eyes).

[Day 5, 18 March 2016]: Bold Lipstick

Finally, we are at the end of the whole make-up experience. Surprisingly, I don’t feel strange looking at my own make-up reflection now. So here, a photo of my Ronald Macdonald inspired lips for you.

Things that I Learnt

Be More Disciplined

I’m going to disagree with whoever says it takes no effort to look good. This week experience, taught me to be more disciplined, such that I need to wake up 15 minutesearlierthan usual to colour my face. This totally means sacrificing my late night catch up of “The Return of Superman”. Truthfully, I used to just clean my face by splashing cold water, yet for this week Ihave resortedto cleansing every inch of my face religiously.

A Little Patience & Determination Go a Long Way

I can’t draw straight lines for nuts, so imagine the amount of time I spent drawing and perfecting my brows and eyeliner! Indeed, I got irritated with myself, when the makeup smudge, or when my eyeliner is obviously not on fleek. Because, I have to remove the whole thing, and redraw again whilst fighting the clock. However, this taught me to be patient and with some determination, I will definitely get it.

Credit: jobministires.wordpress.com

More of Me

Thanks to this experience, I learnt about which foundation colour, eyebrow colour and if BB cream or CC cream suits my skin tone and condition the best. Truthfully, if not for this experiment, I would seriously just choose brown eyeliner and brown eyebrow pencil, and risk walking around like a brown freak with my brown hair. Now, I know which colours complement my skin tone well, and enhance my features.

Empowerment

Ultimately, this entire experiment taught me that I am empowered to accomplish something which I have not tried before when I put my heart and soul in it. And I’m sure it applies to all ladies too, all we need is the spirit of learning and willingness. But most importantly, it taught me that self-confidence comes from within, and not from makeup.

Feast on, but do take care of your gut health!

It is difficult to escape from good food in our little food paradise in Singapore. In fact, food is almost the buzzword for us! Since it is impossible to say no to all the feastings over the weekends with our classmates gatherings, birthday parties, and mummy’s cooking, we should really take care of our gut health to keep our health in tip top condition.

The importance of gut health

Being busy urbanites, few of us have the luxury of getting healthy home-cooked meals everyday. We try to select healthier food (but those fried chicken wings can be really hard to resist) and workout regularly. But what if all that we are doing are pointless because they are sabotaged by our poor gut health!

Credit: Anandi The Sleep Guru

A healthy digestive system is the gateway to our well-being. Eating too much will take a toll on our digestive system, making it work extra hard to digest our food and affecting our gut flora balance in the process.

A poor digestive system can cause health problems like diabetes, obesity, depression and even chronic fatigue syndrome. With colorectal cancer being number one killer in Singapore, it is important to start early and consciously take care of your gut. As the old saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

Besides, being healthy on the inside will definitely help you to look good on the outside too!

How to improve your gut health?

We don’t have to take extreme measures to keep our gut health back on track again. Choose the healthier cultured milk, VITAGEN LESS SUGAR, as it helps to maintain a healthy digestive system! After all, skipping all the feasts is not an option. Maintaining our gut health for it, is.

VITAGEN is a cultured milk drink made by fermenting skim milk with billions of live probiotic cultures (good bacteria i.e. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei). Probiotic cultures in VITAGEN can withstand bile and acidic stomach juices and reach the intestines alive to fight harmful bacteria in the intestines. Besides that, VITAGEN is also the only cultured milk drink in Singapore that is high in prebiotic fibre (dietary fibre).

Most importantly, VITAGEN LESS SUGAR has at least 25% lower sugar than regular cultured milk. Comes in 4 different flavours, I’m sure you’ll have one that you like and it is definitely great as a dessert drink after a meal.

My Dream Career

My Choice of Study in University

Racked 12th in the 2015 QS World University Ranking, I have always been proud to tell others I had graduated from NUS. It is where I had the fondest memories of my life, where I forged precious friendships and where I got to go for an one-year internship in Shanghai via NOC.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honors) in Economics. For those who never really understood what is Economics, it involves understanding (and hopefully having the ability to apply) economics theories and its constituent components. In simple laymen terms, it means finding out how to appropriately allocate resources subjected to the constraints we have in life. It involves a great amount of mathematical, statistical and computation in the subject (so much that I thought I would have been engulfed by those mathematics involved!).

If you are interested in contributing to public policy (think working at Economics Development Board/International Enterprise Singapore) in using economic hypotheses, then this discipline is highly suitable for you! For me, the only reason why I continued was my honors qualification was because my CAP (i.e. grades) allowed me to do so and the reason why I chose Economics was because I thought it is a practical and relevant major to understanding how markets work.

To be honest, choosing the right subject could be tricky. If you aspire to be a doctor/dentist/accountant/lawyer/etc, the certification from the tertiary educations is definitely necessary to help you pursue your passion. However, for the other job that doesn’t require professional certifications, I think that whichever major you are in doesn’t make a very big difference.

At this point in time, even as I am doing a Business Development role, there had not been any time I felt disadvantaged because I did not have a degree in Business. Instead, my heart is still full of joy and thankfulness because NUS had truly broadened my mind beyond what I would have imagined.

Firstly, university education trains your mind. Studying for a degree teaches you to be an independent thinker; it improves your analytical skills, broadens your horizons, and challenges the way you think about many aspects of life. I particularly enjoyed being in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) because you are not limited to studying the modules from your chosen major; for the first year, you get to explore and take on modules that you might have never come across with. With 19 disciplinary subjects ranging from Psychology, English Literature, Theatre Studies, Geography, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Social Work, etc; you get to broaden your knowledge and capacities pursuing different subjects. Specifically, I thoroughly enjoyed the modules in the subjects of Sociology and Social Work. They instilled a sense of empathy and understanding I have for the society and inspired me to be a better human being. In my opinion, it is important to choose a school that enriches you and believes in giving you a holistic education.

Second, it develops your soft skills; most of the time we are involved in group projects where we had to work with team members, deliver effective presentation and learn ways on how to communicate well with others. Plus you get to meet so many awesome new people in your life! My highlight has to be my year-long trip to Shanghai via NUS Overseas College (NOC) and my stay in hall where I had met so many different kinds of people! Some you’ll love and some who make you lose faith in humanity. But in both cases, they will help you become a stronger and better person.

I visited NUS Open Day a few days ago and memories of school days kept flashing back, and I am so glad the university experience has helped me become a independent thinker and shaped me to a people person. I believe that no matter what discipline you take on, in life, it is your attitude that determines your final altitude.

All of Your Embarrassing Bikini Wax Questions, Answered!

$

0

Ladies, bathing suit season is here, and that means you can't avoid dealing with a fuzzy bikini line anymore. The best advice we can give you: be consistent — whether you choose waxing, laser, electrolysis, or another long-lasting hair-removal method. And if waxing is your choice, then you're in luck, since we tapped Noemi Grupenmager, CEO and founder of Uni K Wax Centers, to answer the questions you might not want to ask your friends or your mom (yeah, we all get itchy down there sometimes). Read on, and get one step closer to feeling confident come Memorial Day weekend.

Credit: Where To Get

What is the best way to avoid ingrown hair? Seriously! We exfoliate and use salicylic acid products down there but we still get bumps.

Noemi Grupenmager: If you wax regularly, you'll lower your chance of getting an ingrown hair. Your clothing can also increase ingrown hair, as tight clothing — jeans, leggings, etc. – can also cause these unsightly bumps because they compress your hair against your body, allowing the hair to curl back into the follicle. Try to avoid shaving as much as possible. If you can't put the razor down, exfoliate the area before you shave and make sure you aren't using a dull blade.

How long should you actually wait between bikini waxes? During the Summer, it's hard to let it grow when you're always beach-bound!

NG: Totally understand! Your wax should last you anywhere from three to six weeks. But to prepare for the Summer, start early to get your hair on a waxing cycle and continue it year round. With regular waxing, the length of time between treatments will increase, as the more you wax, the weaker the hair follicle becomes, making it easier to remove hair. If you stop waxing in Winter, you reverse all the work waxing has done for your hair previously. If you're new to waxing down there and want to make it last, look for a salon that offers a special "touch-up" service, which will be really helpful when transitioning your hair-growth pattern from shaving to waxing. Many customers also come in for a wax then head straight to the beach; for these customers, we recommend applying a sun cream to the area prior to exposure to the sun.

Credit: POPSUGAR Photography / THEM TOO

What can you do prewax to make the hair come out better?

NG: Keep the skin hydrated and healthy! If your skin is too dry, your hair is more prone to breakage at the root when removed. One way is of course to drink lots and lots of water to hydrate from the inside out as well as using a great moisturizer on the area to be waxed at least several days prior to your wax service.

What can you do to make it hurt less?

NG: First, choose the right center that uses an all natural, elastic wax that's applied at body temperature, as it is gentler on the skin when the hair is removed. Other tips include: not to drink alcohol beforehand. It may seem like a good idea, but you will tighten the pores, which will make the hair more difficult to remove. Lastly, stick to your waxing schedule. Once your hair growth is in a pattern, it will be easier to remove, but if you're not maintaining your waxes, it could be more uncomfortable.

How can you tell a salon is sanitary (other than no double dipping)?

NG: You're usually on the right track if you find a center that focuses solely on hair removal. From the moment you walk into the salon, it should look and smell clean. When you are in the waxing room, the wax to be used specifically for your service should be freshly made and look presentable. Everything the waxer uses in your service should be either highly sanitized or new for your service.

Credit: Bikini

What can you do postwax to soothe irritated skin?

NG: To soothe irritated skin, apply a cold pack to the area to reduce inflammation and close the pores. Then, apply a soothing moisturizer and wear loose clothing on the day of your treatment to prevent from chaffing.

Why do you get itchy down there after a wax? How can you make it stop?

NG: Some people are itchy after a bikini wax, as they have used a hot synthetic wax which irritates the skin. Find a center that uses an all-natural elastic wax applied at body temperature to never experience the "itchy down-there feeling."
