The Blister Survival Guide for Spring Shoes

$

Seaside getaways are booked, temperatures are on the rise, and for every open-toe slide, mule, and flatform in our closet, we have a coordinating pedicure polish. What could go wrong? A lot, actually, as anyone who has ever spent a full day in a fresh pair of sandals could tell you: Stiff new leather and strappy silhouettes foreign to the winter months will introduce entirely new points of friction to your gait that can cause painful blisters. But according to Miami-based dermatologist Alicia Barba, MD, this collateral damage is avoidable. By taking a few precautionary steps, you can keep your feet looking and feeling vacation-ready while avoiding turning your latest shoe splurge into an accidental podiatric torture chamber.

Break In Statement Sandals Slowly

Introducing a harm-free addition to your shoe wardrobe is a simple case of slowly and surely winning the proverbial race. Breaking in your new wedges around the house for a few hours, or carrying them to the office for an abbreviated day of walking, is one way to avoid causing damage to your soles. This, says Dr. Barba, will allow both “the skin [to] develop a bit of a defense and the shoe [to] mold to the foot” over time, rather than violently all at once. Better yet, leave the work to a cobbler. Having a professional work out tight areas in advance “can stretch a point of friction” so your foot doesn’t have to.

Blister Cushions Are Your Friends

Additional armor can come by way of Band-Aids. “I know every time I wear a certain pair of shoes, I’ll get a sore on the top of my big toe. I just prepare by putting a Band-Aid on,” says Dr. Barba. It’s also why you’ll find mini packs of Compeed blister cushions at the ready in models’ and stylists’ bags. Slipping on a discreet skin-tone pad is always preferable to spotting a drop of blood on pastel sling-backs.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Though it may initially seem counterintuitive, Dr. Barba says that proper daily moisturization can actually make skin stronger, meaning you can better stave off cracked, dry areas. Rather than having the back of the heel shaved or pumiced off at your pedicure appointment, routine applications of a cream boasting 20 to 40 percent of urea will create a smoother surface all year long.

Damage Control Is Everything

If blisters or wounds do occur, cushioned bandages will also be among your best line of defense for a speedy recovery. For a closed blister, Dr. Barba says, if you’re comfortable, “take a sterile needle and remove the fluid without removing the skin.” Next, apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment like Neosporin to stave off infection, and cover the area with a Band-Aid during the day “to keep further pressure away from it until the skin is fully healed.” At night, remove the bandage to let the skin breath. Beyond that, simply pay attention to the pain in your feet, switching to a friendlier back-up pair of shoes when necessary, because, in Dr. Barba’s words, when you’re finally having fun in the sun, “who wants to be nursing a sore?”

Does feminine dressing means faux fur balls and layers and layers of lace? Definitely not! Firstly, its 2016. Secondly, it's really quite hot here in Singapore!

Credit: Tumblr lengzhaylui

Although genderless dressing is really the talk of the fashion town this year, sometimes, we still want to channel our inner girlishness out for some fun. Here are the dos and don'ts of feminine dressing this season, because we don't want to look like the lolitas of Y2k.

1. Pantone colours 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity

Nothing screams femininity like the two hottest colours of the year. You can wear tattered jeans and just pick a piece of pastel pink or blue to soften the rugged look for a touch of sweetness.

2. Florals

You will not go wrong with florals, especially in our tropical little island.

The biggest handbag trend is 2016 Spring is to go small, really small. And these dainty little bags does add to your feminine charms! But remember that structured mini bags are the way to go, not the soft and shapeless ones.

4. Lace up shoes

The lace up shoes trends continues to be big this year. Inspired by ballerinas, you can pair them with almost any outfit. We are especially in love with the Miu Miu red pumps coupled with gingham ribbons with that touch of vintage.

Do I Feel Confident Enough to Walk Around Without Makeup?

$
0
0

Mmmm my answer would be a yes. I think it’s because of the various experiences I had before that shape me into a girl who dare to go out with a bare face now.

I did chemical peel, facial and aesthetic treatments before, and they are usually in the town area. Most of the time, I have to remove my makeup and go home with my bare and red face. Usually I don’t go home right away because I will meet S for dinner. Meaning I have to walk around with peeling red face and smudging eyeliner!

Sometimes I would bring a specs to cover up my ugliness, and other times I just forgot all about it. And remember how moley I used to be in the past? If I can walk around like that I don’t see why I should be scared of baring my face now.

But of course I was whining the whole time, where got girls like to go out looking ugly one? Last time I even wear foundation to go minimart, because I was so scared that people will look at me and laugh at my moley face.

I thought about this before, why was I so afraid to show my face. Didn’t I go out without makeup when I was much younger? Ever since I start to wear makeup, I start to worry about how people will look at me if I don’t wear. Makeup to me was like a layer of protection, it boosts my confidence and when I don’t wear it I feel exposed.

I don’t like the feeling of being exposed, I don’t like the feeling of people knowing who I really was and how unconfident I am as a person.

But now being 26years old, when my priorities and goals suddenly all undergo a change of direction, I looked back thinking why do I care so much about how other people think? Why should I live my life based on other people’s opinions?

I quite enjoy the ME now, where I put on makeup when I want to and nothing if I don’t want to. Life is so much better and happier when you don’t get stressed with other people’s comments. I was close to going for plastic surgery to get the perfect face, I am so glad I didn’t because now when I think about it. A pretty face still won’t fulfil what I want.

When I started blogging, I was so worried about my face. Because I thought people only want to see pretty faces. BUT it’s not that, they want good content and personality.

So makeup doesn’t define me, it only enhances my looks. What’s wrong with going out with no makeup? I don’t see anything wrong.

Calories Burned by Occupation - How Many Calories Does My Job Burn?

$

With the average American working a 40 hour work week, the number of calories that you burn during your working day is no small or dismissible variable in staying fit.

Unfortunately, many of us have sedentary jobs that have us staring into a computer screen while sitting on our bums all day long. I thought it would be fun to apply a rough equation based on the average steps taken in an occupation to work out a guesstimate of how many calories any given specific job burns throughout the day.

All calculations are for an individual weighing 145 pounds. As always, a person's energy expenditure will depend on weight, muscle content, gender, age, and many other factors.

How many calories are burned at work?

Calories burned in a desk job

Credit: Excel Management

Examples: Receptionists, counselors, customer service telephone workers, writers, graphic designers, accountants, commercial and public transportation drivers, cashiers, tech support, IT development, administration & secretaries

These sedentary jobs have the people who fill them taking very few steps each day. Most of the activity would come from running back and forth to the printer, to and from the supply closet, tending to customers needs, and trips to the bathroom. With an estimated 600 steps per hour, and 4800 steps per day, this occupation burns roughly 102.5 cal/hour and 820 calories in one working day.

People who have places of work that are this sedentary need to take special care in making sure that they work hard to add extra activity into their day. Being this physically inactive is associated with all kinds of diseases and ailments, including heart disease and diabetes. It is very easy for extra weight to sneak up on you when you work this kind of job. Be proactive about protecting your health by making staying fit a priority.

Calories burned in jobs with moderate activity

Credit: Blogspot Educationalia

Examples: Teachers, childcare workers, personal trainers, mechanics, police officers, cooks, salespeople, floor managers, pharmacy techs, nurses & other health care providers, realtors, and security services.

These professionals are not completely sedentary in their jobs, but they also aren't necessarily reaching the recommended 10,000 steps a day. During an hour these careers require roughly 920 steps, which adds up to 7360 steps during the full 8 hours. This activity, along with energy required for bodily function, adds up to a total of 127.5 calories burned per hour, or 1020 throughout the full working day.

All of these jobs are a bit more physically active than a regular desk job, but they still fall short of 10,000 steps a day. They also don't get the heart rate up, and they don't build lean muscle. Intentional physical activity is still very much a necessity in these workplaces to maintain health and keep weight from creeping upwards.

Calories burned in jobs with a high amount of activity

Credit: GB Times

Examples: Construction workers, waitresses, farmers, custodians and maintenance workers, landscapers, professionals of a construction trade such as carpenters, plumbers, welders, roofers, or electricians.

These professions require a lot of physically taxing activity. They might range widely in nature, but what they have in common is that they cover a lot of distance, or spend a lot of time hefting themselves or materials around in order to get a job done. They spent much of the day on their feet, and some of them must use their strength in often varying and unpredictable ways.

With roughly 1500 steps taken each hour, these careers have people taking roughly 12,000 steps in an 8 hour period. By our calculations, that’s 175 calories per hour, or 1,400 in eight. Keep in mind that these numbers are based off of a 145 pound person. Considering that the occupations above have a higher than average male occupancy, body weights will tend to be higher and so will the caloric burn.

These physically challenging jobs might have people taking enough steps, and burning enough calories, but they do not lead to a complete picture of fitness. There is still plenty of room for strength training, cardio that is intense enough to get the heart rate up, and stretching to help maintain flexibility and avoid injuries.

How are Americans still overweight when they’re burning so many calories at work?

Weight gain, loss, and maintenance is all about calories burned versus calories consumed. Hypothetically speaking, even if you burned 10,000 cal a day, you would gain weight if you ate 11,000. If you're trying to keep extra pounds at bay your focus should be adjusting the ratios of what your burning compared to what you're consuming. Make sure that you don't undo the hard physical labor that you do at work or at the gym by eating more than you are burning throughout the day.

Credit: Life Fitness

Here's how we came up with the numbers above: the body burns roughly 12 calories per pound of bodyweight per day, just for the most essential body functions (no physical activity at all). For a person who weighs 145 pounds, that's 1740 cal per day, just to keep the body running. Divide that by the 24 hours in the day and you're looking at 72.5 cal per hour. Multiply that by 8 (the average hours in the workday) and you get 580 calories. Using estimates of steps taken throughout the working day and other variables of physical exertion, we approximated the number of additional calories (on top of baseline, resting calories burned) that that particular professional would burn per day during their job.

How active is your job? Do you feel physically restless by the end of the day because you have been sitting too long, or are your legs and feet tired after having been moving nonstop? Do you think that the number of calories burned by occupation on the list above reflects the amount of calories that you burn each day?

Living and Loving Myself

While growing up, we will always try to fit in with others, try to get along be others, and be with others. I guess that is human nature? I believe many of us have spent some time and effort trying to go along with the crowd, getting others to like us, etc.

But after we grow up, we will ask ourselves, “So what?” “Does it even matter?”

“No, it doesn’t."

As I grow up, I learnt about some things…

Love myself.

Live for myself.

Be true to myself.

I deserve to be happy.

Accept myself, flaws and all.

Never change myself for others.

To those who judge, there is no need to explain myself.

Just remember, you, yourself.

Kate Upton Contrasts Magazine Shoots with Real Images to Prove Fashion Is Just Fantasy

In a world where the majority of models use their social media channels primarily to develop their own personal brand, it's always refreshing to see one buck the trend.

As a model with a much curvier figure than the size zero women splashed across billboards and adverts, Kate Upton already defies convention. Now, the Sports Illustrated model is juxtaposing high fashion with reality on her Instagram page, in a light-hearted dig at the unattainable perfection projected by the fashion world.

An image of herself reclining on a kitchen surface, heavily made-up and in heels, is placed alongside a picture of Upton in her own domestic setting, Hoover in hand. Upton posing on her bed with her dog lying behind her is matched with an image of Upton actually in bed with her dog unceremoniously sleeping on top of her. An immaculate Upton effortlessly lifting weights is placed alongside a make-up free, exhausted Upton sat on the floor of a gym.

The conversation around the façade of social media is steadily growing, and women such as Cara Delevingne have disrupted the perception of models as enigmatic and polished by sharing unedited, candid shots. But you’ll be hard pressed to see most supers deconstructing the shoots that propelled them to stardom.

[Blogger Jessie] Physiogel Calming Relief Face Care Range 14 Day Blogger Skin Diary

Physiogel is the leading brand for sensitive skin and recommended by dermatologist. About 1 in 2 women in the Asia-Pacific reported about skin sensitivity and one in three women experience facial redness issues in a study conducted by GSK in collaboration with AC Nielsen. Skin sensitivity is actually more common than you think and probably most women don’t even realise that they actually had sensitive skin. Most importantly, knowing your skin well means you need to be more careful of the products and treatments you are using on your skin. Not only that there are a lot of factors that can trigger and cause skin sensitivity!

alt

alt

I know my skin has always been sensitive so I know never to go for harsh treatments, acidic or high chemical products. Other than always trying to use the right type of products, I am also very careful with the sun because it will trigger redness on my face. Environment is a trigger of sensitive skin. The sun, the wind, rain, cold, central heating and air conditioning all plays a part in drying or aggravating sensitive skin.

Even long hot showers are really not good as it will remove natural oils that are needed to keep your skin moist and supple. I am guilty of having long hot showers too!

Food intake also can be a factor, so spicy food and alcohol too can be blamed for skin sensitivity flare up as well. I don’t usually drink a lot accept some wine during special occasion but I am someone who loves spicy food. I cannot survive or eat anything that is not spicy. Always I will add a lot of chill in my food.

Another thing that never fail to cause me to have outbreak is STRESS!!!! Anxiety and stress can increase the release of hormones such as cortisol with can affect the skin, making it prone to breakouts and increasing skin sensitivity. So yeah need to try and stay chilled!!!

alt

I notice that whenever I go under the sun, my face gets red very easily. And if I am expose for long time, I can see small red vessels on my face. I learnt that facial redness occurs when the tiniest blood vessels on your skin, the capillaries gets wider. When it gets wider, more blood flows through them and giving the red appearance. Facial redness is one of the ways to show that you have sensitive skin.

Besides my skin getting red rather easily, another thing is that my skin gets dehydrated very easily. Especially after a swim or sauna, my skin will be so tight, tautness, uncomfortable itch and gets very sandy feeling the next day. My skin peels a lot as well which is so annoying because it is always so flaky if I don’t apply huge amount of moisturisers or do hydrating masks frequently.

This is actually because my lipid barrier on the outer layer of the skin being compromised causing my skin to lose moisture and become dehydrated easily. Lipids are natural fats that help to keep the outer layer of the skin moist and healthy by forming a protective barrier against water loss and irritants.

Physiogel Calming Relief face care range contains Physiogel BioMimic Technology™ in its formulation which mimics lipids that are naturally present in the skin. By mimicking the skin’s natural lipid structure, Physiogel BioMimic Technology™ can repair the skin’s moisture barrier and restore hydration.

Therefore Physiogel not just help to soothe, strengthen and repair your skin moisture barrier. The skin cells surrounded by the lipids form a protective barrier, not only against water loss from the inside but will also form a barrier against the entry of allergens from the outside.

POWER!

alt

When Physiogel contacted me to go through this 14 day trial for their new Physiogel Calming Relief face care range which consist of a Facial Cleanser and 2 face creams, I am really interested to see how the products would improve my skin because so many had already found it effective.

alt

Day 1.

I felt that my skin is calmed and my skin itchiness is more tolerable. Especially with the Cleanser, it made me feel a big difference because usually after washing my face with other facial soap, my skin would feel really tight and taut because most cleansers in the market are too over drying for my skin. But I was pleasantly surprised that my skin actually feels soft after I wash the Physiogel cleanser away for the first time. I decided to apply the facial relief cream on my face thicker like a mask treatment over my face, cleaning the excess away before going to bed.

My face feels really soft the following day and the makeup went on my face amazingly. No flaky makeup the entire day on day 2. Makeup stick so well on my skin. No need for any touch up. I started to look forward for what it would do to my face for the next 14 days.

alt

Day 7.

After a week, I noticed that even when I forgot to apply my routine facial hydrating masks on my face or even with me missing my application of the Physiogel products on my face at night, my face no longer feel very dry or taut the following morning. It just tells me that my skin is starting to be able to lock in moisture better than before. The peeling and flaky issue on my skin around my nose and mouth area gets better and the skin is not as red whenever I scratch my face due to itchiness or go under the sun. Itchiness level is reduced but I still feel itchy after I sweat outdoors or after the gym.

alt

Day 10.

I am so used to using Physiogel Calming Relief face care range that I am using it both day and night without fail. At first, I was worried that the Face Cream rich version might be too oily for my skin but it is actually ok after getting use to the texture in the past 10 days. I apply the rich bottle on the cheeks and forehead which skin is extremely dry, for my T-zone where my skin is oilier, I applied the normal bottle of the Calming Relief Face Cream. I find it works better like that for my combination skin face. At this point, my skin is no longer flaky or peels. My makeup also look so perfect on my skin because no dead skin half hanging there with the makeup. At this point, I am strongly recommending my friends who have sensitive skin and eczema to go get Physiogel Calming Relief face care range!

alt

Day 14.

I am travelling to Taipei on Day 12 which is quite cold at the moment about 10 -16 degrees. Normally, after taking the plane my skin would surely start to get flaky and peels because of the dry air on the plane plus the colder weather. I was really waiting to see how my skin would react to the travel to Taipei after trying out Physiogel. But the norm did not happen at all, my skin did not feel taut, there wasn’t any flaking of the skin, no more facial itchiness and my skin did not even feel dry at all in the mist of winter.

I really love that my skin feels soft especially after cleansing with the facial cleanser which is my favourite out of the 3 products. You can use the cleanser by itself without the use of water. In some countries where water is not treated properly, it can be a cause of skin sensitivity to the skin. So a cleanser that need not have to use with water sounds pretty good for me.

alt

During this 14 day trial, I was also provided with a skin moisture analyser. It shows that moisture level of my skin is improved from 11.9% to 23.7% in less than 14 days.

6 Ways the Changes in Instagram’s Feed Will Impact Brands

$
0
0

When Instagram announced last Tuesday that it will be introducing an algorithm based feed (a la Facebook), it caused quite a stir in the social media world.

Credit: Social Fulcrum

With a blog post titled “See the Moments You Care About First,” Instagram explained that people are missing “on average 70 percent of their feeds.” The switch to an algorithm-based feed is designed to ensure that users see more of what they care about and less of what they don’t.

It seems like a logical step to deal with the platform’s growth, but not everyone is happy.

More than 190,000 people have signed a Change.org petition to “Keep Instagram Chronological.” They fear that the changes will negatively impact the reach of small businesses and artists, as well as undermine the egalitarian nature of the “most recent” style feed.

It appears likely that the changes will happen, regardless of the opposition, so what impact will the changes have and how can brands, marketers and influencers prepare for them?

Number of followers will grow …

Credit: Definition Today

Instagram is looking to make the overall experience more engaging and relevant, while at the same time grow the platform as a whole. With the chronological feed, there are only so many users you can follow before it becomes cluttered and unusable.

Instagram hopes to solve this by only serving posts it thinks you will like the most.

The impact of this? Users can follow more accounts with less consequence and, thus, follower numbers will likely grow.

… But follower count will be less relevant

Currently, a post to 100,000 followers reaches 100,000 feeds. In the new model, it won’t be so simple.

At this stage, it’s difficult to tell just how restrictive the algorithm will be, but if Facebook is anything to go by, we can expect organic reach to become far more difficult. When it comes to reach, things are likely to become a bit more complicated, as total number of followers won’t carry the same weight it once did—even more so as people begin to follow more accounts.

Engagement rate is king

Engagement rate will become even more important. With an algorithm that prioritizes content it believes you will be interested in, engaging content will be the key to unlocking reach.

Brands, marketers and influencers will need to put a priority on creating engaging content if they want to compete.

We can also expect up-and-coming influencers with small audiences but great engagement rates to become more in demand.

Brands, marketers and influencers will need to create more engaging content

Without the luxury of guaranteed reach, the pressure will be on to ensure that content is relevant and engaging. It’s logical to assume that the higher percentage of engaging content you post, the greater your overall reach will be, but time will tell.

This means that posting average, generic content could bring down your overall reach and, as such, perhaps there will be a greater focus on quality over quantity.

One thing is clear: Brands will need to invest more time and effort to reach and engage with their audience.

The demand for influencers will grow

Credit: Keep Calm and Posters

As it becomes tougher for brands to reach their audience organically, they will explore other means. This means that the demand for influencer marketing is likely to grow.

Working with high-quality, relevant influencers will provide brands great opportunities to reach their audience and supplement their own reach. As that demand for great influencers increases, so, too, will the cost. Influencers themselves will also be under pressure to perform, with their reach also being impacted.

Paid Instagram advertising will be more common (and effective)

The change in feed is also key to Instagram’s monetization strategy.

In restricting organic reach, Instagram will open up new revenue opportunities as brands seek ways to gain greater access to their audience (and new ones).

By plugging into the Facebook ad platform, Instagram is in a great position to deliver high-quality, targeted advertising to its users. And as the aggregated feed eventually replaces the chronological one, we can expect Instagram ad offerings to become more sophisticated and effective.

Brands and businesses looking to market through Instagram will need a mixture of organic, influencer marketing and paid advertising to get great results.

Now is the time to start thinking about your Instagram strategy so you can be ready when the change rolls out more broadly.

[Blogger Sydney] Restylane Fillers at Halley Medical Aesthetic

$
0
0

Remember the other time I did HIFU at Halley Medical Aesthetics and I said I will be sharing about my Restylane Fillers procedure as well? Here it is!

I have always wanted to achieve a youthful looking face, and of course to achieve that, the first step is to prevent ageing with Anti-ageing skincare but what happens if you can’t stop nature from taking its course? There are limitations to what skincare can do for us. After having a talk with Dr Terence Tan, I realised besides going for a Face tightening treatment (HIFU), I will need to do some fillers to plump up certain areas to achieve optimum results.

With so many brands of fillers in the market like Radiesse, Juvederm, Sculptra etc. which would be the best to target delicate skin areas like the under eye, laugh lines and forehead? The answer to it is Restylane. Restylane fillers as according to Dr Terence Tan, is one of the softest in the market which allows more efficient moulding to take place.

And of course besides the brand of fillers, it is essential to have an expert accompanying your procedure. Not everyone can treat these areas I have to say. Dr Terence Tan is the ONLY person I know who can do that. There could be other doctors who could but in my aspect he’s the only one!

Dr Terence Tan has one of the sharpest eyes around. He noticed I have dented areas on my lateral forehead nearer to the eyebrow as well as the chin area. He explained that when we age, we loose facial volume at the side of our head as well so plumping up the lateral forehead will give me a more youthful look. I decided to skip the chin area for now but go ahead with my forehead, tear trough and laugh lines. After removing my makeup and numbing cream, we are ready to start!

During the procedure, I could laugh and smile because Dr Terence Tan was cracking jokes all the time.

He also made sure to show me the Magic Needle and the boxes of filler before opening to ensure that I was getting new and unused products. This is something I really appreciate because most doctors don’t do that. The Magic Needle is not a needle but actually a micro-cannula used for injecting dermal fillers, which distributes the filler more evenly. As the Magic Needle is blunt and extremely pliable, it slides under our skin with minimal pain. And because he only needs to inject once using the Magic Needle compared to a normal needle, there will be no bruises too. Dr Terence Tan also explained this results in less bleeding.

Being a veteran with fillers procedures, I have tried almost all the brands of fillers over the years to target my two biggest concerns, under eye area and laugh lines. Have visited many clinics till the extent I almost gave up as I thought these areas were untreatable. Of course, under eye concealer can hide this issue temporarily but what happens if your skin is drier under your eye area and it is impossible for you to use concealer at all without it caking up and forming fine lines after?

Besides the eye area, who has issues with laugh lines as well? I am sure many of you do! I have unbalanced laugh lines. My right side is deeper than my left and when I am not smiling, it is VERY obvious and of course I hate it. The thing is many doctors I have been to can’t seem to tell and always inject the same amount to both sides which is unforgivable! Who doesn’t want an even face right? I was initially skeptical when Dr Terence Tan told me he could fix these issues for me but I am glad I took the plunge.

His technique is also very interesting. For my lateral forehead and tear trough areas, Dr Terence Tan said he would use a “sandwich technique” for me. This involved injecting Restylane Perlane, which is a firmer filler below for lift first before putting in Restylane Vital Light, which is a softer filler to smoothen out the fine wrinkles. This results in a more natural look. For my nasolabial folds, he used only Restylane Perlane, which is a good choice for severe facial wrinkles like those pesky laugh lines.

Thank you Dr Terence Tan! After the procedures, my forehead seems fuller, laugh lines are even and also most importantly, I do not need to dab concealer under my eye anymore! I can finally go concealer free!

As you can see, the side of my forehead is not so sunken in and the filler has filled up the lines under my eyes and laugh lines.

So there, this is my honest review and I hope it helped you and made you believe there’s something for you out there that will solve your issues.

Till next time!

Meet the Korean Male Model Squad Making Waves the World Over

For a Korean top model, winding your way through the bustling crowds outside the DDP complex where Seoul Fashion Week takes place can prove impossible—particularly those male models with a rabid fan base. So when a band of four men with cutting cheekbones breezes through the throng, it counts as a fashion miracle—or, at least a testament to the impenetrable cool of this particular squad.

Sitting on a row of stone benches, removed from the fray, Ryu, Do Jin Kim, Joon Ki Min, and Tei are taking a moment between shows to breathe—laughing and roughhousing like old friends—and discuss the new wave of Korean male models in high demand overseas. Take Ryu, who booked a Versace exclusive before taking a turn on the Balmain x H&M runway in New York. Or Kim and Min, who walked Vivienne Westwood together, while Tei made his debut at Emporio Armani. As Korean menswear remains on the rise, the models who wear it best are rising with it.

“Korean models know fashion, and they know how to look cool when they wear it,” Kim explains, recalling a Milanese casting director who booked him because he wore clothes “like a model.” When asked what other feedback the group has received from global castings, Ryu deadpans, “Gorgeous. I’m gorgeous,” barely holding back a smile. “Cheekbones . . . amazing!” Kim chimes in. “Amazing cheekbones. Yeah, I know.” Then Tei leans forward. “Thank you!” he says, triggering a burst of raucous laughter. “Me too, me too,” they agree.

As the foursome flies out to Milan, to Paris, to London, and to New York, where Ryu is now based, they seek out one another, congratulating each other on successful bookings and sharing tips—with one small caveat. “Within each show, there are only a few Asian models that are picked, so the casting itself is a bit of a competition,” Tei explains, delicately. Or, as Kim jumps in: “Work is work, friends are friends. It’s a competition!” Of course, he’s joking—but designers should take note. From those twinning cheekbones to their slick matching streetwear, the group makes the strongest impression when they travel as a pack, like Taylor Swift and her own famous squad. Power in numbers.

20 Important Relationship Goals You Actually Want

$

I’m online all day, every day, and so I end up seeing a lot of the #RelationshipGoals memes that float around social media.

Credit: Kpop Map

I’ve seen #RelationshipGoals that range from very cute to sickeningly exaggerated (most are the latter, to be honest). In the beginning, this relationship goals meme was realistic – pictures of happy couples holding hands while walking in the snow, cuddling and watching a movie together, or sleeping with an adorable puppy. But at this point, relationship goals have become completely over-the-top. From long, dramatic declarations of love on an Instagram picture to cuddling in positions that seem extremely uncomfortable, some relationship goals make me want to roll my eyes until forever.

At this point, it feels like those #RelationshipGoals pictures or actions that get all the likes and shares aren’t even authentic – it feels like couples are doing this stuff to get attention and 15 minutes of Internet fame. Does that sound cynical and bitter? Maybe, but I can’t help but feel like people care more about looking like #goals than actually being #goals. I oftentimes find that the couples who feel the need to post about their love every day for all to see are the couples who are trying to over-compensate for something (maybe their actual unhappiness).

I’ve been dating my boyfriend for a little over five years, and while our relationship isn’t perfect (no relationship is), I am very happy with it. To me #relationshipgoals isn’t about being entangled in his arms and legs while I watch him play video games or reading a sappy Facebook status he wrote – my goals for our relationship are genuinely feeling happy together. And we do that! So, that said, here are some things you should REALLY strive for when dating someone. Because you can make any relationship look amazing online, but that doesn’t mean it truly is – these things do, though. Here are 20 important relationship goals you actually want:

1. Hearing your BF’s phone go off and not feeling the immediate urge to look at it.

With all of the ways someone could cheat on you these days, it’s understandable to be nervous about what your S.O. is doing on their phone while you’re not looking. Or, it’s normal to feel that way when you first start dating. But once you’ve established trust, you should no longer spend time being concerned about who that text they just got is from.

2. Being able to go a few days without seeing each other and not feeling totally freaked out about it.

You know you’re in a good place when you can go a few days without seeing your S.O., and although you miss each other, it’s not the end of the world. This past year, I went to Spain for a week without my boyfriend. I missed him and he missed me, but we didn’t spend the whole time trying to talk or crying about how much we missed each other. It’s so important to be able to have your own lives and do your own things sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s also important to experience things together, but if you’re too dependent on each other, that’s not good.

3. Getting into a fight and realizing that fight doesn’t automatically mean you’re going to break up.

When you first start dating someone, getting into an argument with them makes you feel all sorts of nervous about whether or not the relationship will end because of it. After you’ve been together for a while, you realize that little arguments every once in a while are normal and aren’t the end of everything. That sounds depressing, but it’s actually where you want to be.

4. Going out with your friends and not being bombarded by texts from him asking what you’re doing.

You know what’s not cute? Trying to hang out with your friends during a girl’s night but having to field 20 different texts from your boyfriend who is freaking out because he’s not with you. You know what IS cute? Having a fun night out and then texting your BF afterwards to chat.

5. Not feeling the need to text each other 24/7.

Speaking of texting, you should WANT to get to the point in your relationship where you two don’t feel the need to be tethered to your phone. Again, it’s important to do your own thing without being totally dependent on each other.

6. Being able to be alone with his mom for more than five minutes without wanting to run and hide.

Once you’re able to hang out with his family even if he’s not around, you know you’ve made it.

7. Hanging out but just sitting next to each other doing your own thing and feeling comfortable.

There’s something really nice about a hangout sesh with your boyfriend that involves you reading a book while he watches his show. It’s nice to be able to do your own thing while still being together. Of course, every single hangout shouldn’t be you guys doing this, but you know what I mean.

8. Not feeling like you have to have sex every time you see each other.

Sex is great, but it’s not the only part of a relationship. It’s nice to get to a point where you don’t feel like you HAVE to do it every single time you see each other – you do it if you want!

9. Leaving your phone laying around because you know he/she isn’t going to go through it.

Worrying about your boyfriend going through your texts because he’s jealous? Not cool. I see a lot of #relationshipgoals posts like, “when he doesn’t have a passcode on his phone” or “when he asks you to check his new text instead of checking it himself.” To me, this seems more like a #goal for the girl to be able to go through his stuff when she wants than a #goal of trust.

10. Being able to tell bae you think someone else is cute without them freaking out and vice versa.

Hi, newsflash: attraction to others does not magically disappear when you enter a relationship. You’re still going to think other people are cute, and the same goes for your significant other. Once you can stop acting like noticing someone’s looks is cheating, you’re in a pretty good place together.

11. Laughing during sex because something weird AF just happened.

You know what’s weird? Sex. Funny, embarrassing things happen, and if you can laugh about them with your partner instead of feeling the urge to run away, you’re in a good place.

12. Taking care of each other when one of you is sick.

You know you’ve reached #goals level when your boyfriend is happy to take care of you when you’re not feeling well.

13. Feeling comfortable enough to be totally gross around each other.

If you still have to pretend like you don’t fart or poop or burp because lol you’re a *~*girl*~* that stinks. Being able to be “gross” in front of your partner indicates a level of comfort and trust that is amazing to have.

14. Talking about future plans without wondering if they’ll actually happen.

It’s so nice to discuss your plans for a vacation in a year without wondering to yourself, “Will we really still be together in a year?”

15. Having a whole conversation in inside jokes that no one else understands.

One of the cutest relationship goals is getting to that point where you have enough inside jokes to have entire conversations together that other people don’t get.

16. Not even having to ask if they’re coming with you to an event because you know they will.

You were invited to a party? Your S.O. will probably be with you. Got a plus one to a wedding? No need to stress about that. Your significant other doesn’t have to do EVERYTHING with you, but it’s nice to know they probably will if you need them to.

17. Or when his family assumes you’re coming to something without even asking.

Isn’t it so nice when his family or friends just assume you’re going to be around because they’re so used to you being there? Awwww.

18. Finding TV shows you binge watch together instead of going out.

Going out and being social is great! But it’s nice to also be the couple who can spend an entire weekend in bed watching the same TV show and being cozy together.

19. Not feeling pressured to write about how great your relationship is on social media because you don’t need to.

There’s nothing wrong with letting the world know how you feel about bae. But when you feel the need to make a spectacle of your relationship every single day, it seems like you’re over-compensating. It seems like it’s too much. Relationships are about two people, not about the attention two people can get by making others jealous.

20. Getting excited to see each other even after a long time of being together.

Even after years of dating, you should still feel a little bit of excitement about getting to see your boo. That’s a good sign!

Beauty Lies in the Eye of the Beholder. Who’s Your Beauty Icon?

No matter your definition of beauty, there’s no need for invasive surgery in your pursuit for beauty.

Be it classic stars or our modern pop idols, these media icons are the epitome of beauty. From Hollywood’s Golden Age girl Audrey Hepburn to Taylor Swift and her girl squad, whom did you pick as the ultimate beauty icon?

The Kpop stars seem to have an edge over our classical beauties with Im Jin-ah taking the lead, followed by Im Yoona. It is no wonder that they say Korea is leading the global beauty trends nowadays! Marilyn Monroe was ranked third among our readers, followed by Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie, with Audrey Hepburn in the last seat.

To each her own and we all have our own opinion of what beauty is. But is there a more scientific way of defining beauty or does one go by what’s pleasing to the eyes?

“Although the definition of beauty is different across different countries and different cultures, there are some similarities,” says Dr. Terence Tan, Director of Halley Medical Aesthetics. “If you look at the celebrities both from the West and the East like Megan Fox, Fan Bing Bing, Park Si Yeon or many other Korean stars, it is generally true that a beautiful face has wrinkle-free skin, v-shaped face, well-defined 3D projection of facial features that are well balanced, and a youthful appearance.”

Credit: The Divine Addiction

While stories abound of how people go through extreme surgeries to achieve the look that they want, there is no need to do so. “Getting surgery done overseas is not only risky, it can also be costly, time-consuming, and traumatic, especially if there are complications. What many people do not know is that doctors can also deliver the same results safely and at an affordable cost locally without the need for invasive surgery, using the latest techniques and medical tools,” explains Dr. Tan. With 3D projection, for instance, doctors are able to sculpt and enhance facial features using a combination of techniques involving machines like the Ultherapy device, threads, and fillers for nose, cheek, chin, and other parts of the face to create a more sculpted look. Some of these techniques have minimal and even zero downtime.

If it is the v-shaped face that you desire, for example, one of the methods is to combine the Ultra-V Lift technique, which is a non-anchoring thread lift method with Korean methods of applying of Botox to the jaw to achieve facial slimming, suggests Dr. Tan. “I will then augment this with dramatic 3D projection achieved through fillers and jawline thread lifts to give the face a more chiseled look, completing the makeover.” Using Ultherapy for facial slimming combined with Botox is also another method of achieving the v-shaped face.

Ultimately, no matter what your definition of beauty is, your beauty journey needs to start with a doctor whom you are comfortable with. As the saying goes: Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. So your doctor’s sense of aesthetics is an important consideration criteria before you embark on a makeover.

April Fool's Couple Pranks

It’s April Fool’s Day! The best relationships are when you can have a laugh together and not take things too seriously. Here are some funny pranks ideas that are especially great for couples which you can play on your significant other today.. or any other day! Video it and share it on Youtube.

Caught Cheating on Facetime

Message your boyfriend on Facetime (or any other video chat which you usually use together). Have your bed behind you, in the background of the chat. And in your bed, set some cushions up under the blanket so it looks like someone is under there. You should also put a wig or mannequin head on the pillow. Also scatter some men’s clothes in the background.

Start of the chat by completely blocking the “guy in your bed” with your body, so you are up pretty close to the camera. As your chat progresses, act natural… and then slowly move your body further away from the camera, so he can see more of the background. Soon, he will notice, that hey! Who is that in your bed?!

When he asks, that’s your cue to hurriedly move the camera so it faces away from the bed, and you deny everything, and say it’s nothing. Continue chatting with him. He will get very suspicious and probably very alarmed. When you’re finally ready to let him in on the trick, take the camera to the bed and show him your ingenious set-up. April Fool’s!!!

Ice Bomb his Drink

It’s really easy to create ice mentos bombs in your freezer. All you have to do is drop a mentos into the ice cube tray and fill it with water. When your boyfriend asks your for a beer or a coke, pop a few of these mentos bombs in his drink. It is usually visible if it’s served in a glass… so I would suggest cutting the mentos pieces in halves or quarters. That way they are smaller, and you can make smaller ice cubes (just fill with less water). Once ready to serve, pour out some of the drink from the can, and then pop in the tiny mentos bombs.

Serve it to him in the can. As he enjoys his drink, you wait eagerly for the ice to melt, and it’ll happen pretty fast because they’re tiny! Watch him panic as his drink starts to fizz over uncontrollably!

Cook a Horrible Meal for Him

If you have not cooked for him yet, now’s the best time to show off your culinary skills as a domestic goddess. Hype it up like you are a great cook, so that he would expect a great feast made especially for him by his darling girlfriend.

Then you serve him a disgusting meal. Whatever it is you’re cooking, make two versions. One good version. And then one that has way too much salt, or is burnt, or just tastes bad. Watch his reaction as his brain starts to compute that his girlfriend is a horrible cook and he may have to eat like this for the rest of his life. Then see how he scrambles to be nice about the meal, as he does not want to offend you. Finally, you put him out of his misery, by swapping that crap meal for the real deal.

Leave Poop in his Toilet

No guy, especially in a new relationship, wants to think his girlfriend is disgusting or unhygienic. When you first stay over, drop a fake log of nutella poop (or any chocolate squashed up to be a poop shape) into his toilet bowl, and leave it unflushed.

Remember to set up a hidden camera in the bathroom to capture the moment, as you probably don’t want to be in the bathroom when he chances upon it. The disgust on his face will be hilarious when you both playback the video to this prank for many years to come.

The Fake Engagement

If you know your boyfriend is a bit of a commitment phobe, or if you are both just not ready for the next level yet. Why not have a laugh at his expense. Send yourself a parcel in the mail but do not open it. Leave it in your mailbox until he comes over.

When he’s with you, you casually retrieve the parcel in your mailbox and open it. In the box, have a little velvet ring box, with a diamond engagement ring (you can get fake costume jewellery ones for a few dollars) and a message “Will you marry me?”

Act utterly shocked by this revelation… and then slip the ring on your finger with tears of joy shouting “YES I WILL!!!” And give him the greatest hug ever! Alternatively, you could print another guy’s name at the end of the message. Then you act surprised, and possibly like you’re considering saying yes to this ‘other guy’. Such a cruel prank! Haha...

What Exactly Happens to Our Body When We Consume Too Much Sugar?

$

Desserts and sweets are comfort food we love since we were kids. We grew up having them as rewards from our parents, and later on consuming them whenever we feel stressed, or when we just want to have a girly day out.

Credit: Pesca Ice-cream

Besides all those treats that we have, don’t forget that we also add sugar to our daily coffee and tea. What’s more, sugar is also present in our processed food like bread and sausages, and condiments like our Worcester sauce and ketchup. The list is never ending.

With the omnipresence of sugars, have you ever thought about what exactly it does to our body? Is it ok to continue our love for sweets? Or are there side effects of excessive sugar intake?

Why is excessive sugar bad for us?

1. Cavities

Credit: Personal Care Dentistry

We have been taught this too many times as kids and no, it is not a myth our parents scare us with. Bacteria feeding on simple sugars left on our teeth create acid that erodes our enamel, and that is the main cause of tooth decay.

2. Overworks our liver

Sugar is broken down into glucose and fructose before entering our blood stream. We need glucose for our bodily functions, but fructose is unnecessary and it can only be metabolize by our liver. Too much sugar will cause the liver to overwork and in the long run, it may result in liver failure.

3. Weight gain

Credit: Under Armour

Excess sugars in our body are converted to triglycerides, which is a type of fat that is stored in our body (think muffin tops and flabby thighs). Soft drinks or flavoured juices that are rich in sugars are the worst, because they do not let you feel satiated, yet they add on huge numbers to your calorie count, resulting in weight gain.

4. Insulin resistance

High sugar intake increases our body’s demand for insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is required to convert food into energy and when insulin level is always high in our body, our body’s sensitivity to insulin is reduced. With that, glucose will start building up in our blood and that could result in fatigue, hunger, high blood pressure and later on, full blown diabetes.

VITAGEN LESS SUGAR

It is scary to know how the sweet and innocent sugar can create such havocs in our body. Health Promotion Board recommends that added sugar should contribute to less than 10% of our dietary energy, and that translates to approximately only 8 to 11 teaspoons daily.

Because it is impossible to totally remove added sugars from our diet, we must remember to consume them in moderation. Always try to look for beverages and food that are low in sugar, and if you can (yes we know how difficult it is), skip dipping your strawberries in cream, or adding another teaspoon of sugar into your coffee.

Amidst all the beverages that has high sugar levels, we are glad to have VITAGEN LESS SUGAR, which is a cultured milk drink specially formulated for consumers who are health conscious and are concerned about their sugar intake. VITAGEN LESS SUGAR has at least 25% less sugar as compared to regular cultured milk drinks and it contains probiotic cultures (good bacteria), and is high in prebiotic fibre (dietary fibre) for good gut health and a healthier you.

You Need to See How Much Brows Have Changed over the Years

$
0
0

If you saw a photo of a woman with stick-straight hair and a middle part, or another with fluffy hair and permed bangs, you would immediately recognize the decade (hello disco '70s and not so tasteful '80s). But hair trends aren’t the only defining characteristics of an era: though not quite as obvious, eyebrows can be indicative of moment in time, too.

PHOTO: PASCAL LE SEGRETAIN/GETTY IMAGES

“We’ve seen thick, thin, unibrow, nonexistent, dyed, bleached, tweezed, and bejeweled,” says brow guru and founder of her eponymous brand, Zoey Van Jones. “Much like hair color and hairstyle trends, brows have definitely played their part in creating one's identity as well as classifying a certain era with a distinctive look.”

So with her and other industry experts' guidance, we took a look at the major brow trends dating as far back as ancient Egypt, some of the most copycat-worthy looks, and a few that might just be better left in the past. Plus, a prediction for brow trends of the future.

Ancient Egypt

PHOTO: IMAGES GROUP/REX SHUTTERSTOCK.

A dramatic eye is nothing new: Cleopatra, Nefertiti "The Great Royal Wife" of Pharoah Akhenaten (looking browlicious in bust form), and those from all walks of life during the Egyptian Empire opted for mineral powder-lined lids and arches. They even plucked or shaved before they elongated and darkened their brows to get the perfect shape. But it wasn't simply an act of vanity, according to new research — they actually used the powder to protect against diseases (oh and ward off evil spirits, too). Bonus fact: When a cat died, everyone in that household shaved off their eyebrows as an act of mourning.

Ancient Greece & Rome

PHOTO: DEA PICTURE LIBRARY/GETTY IMAGES.

Women in both of these cultures believed in the power of purity and natural beauty. Meaning: the unibrow. But if they weren't "blessed" with just one arch, they would often connect the two with dark powder (okay, so maybe they weren't as strict about the natural part). It was worth bending the rules, since the Frida Kahlo look was considered more than just a sign of beauty, but intelligence as well — and they were smart enough to fake it.

The Middle Ages

PHOTO: EVERETT/REX SHUTTERSTOCK.

"In my opinion, the strangest time for brows was the Middle Ages," says Van Jones. "Women would pluck their brows almost completely off and tweeze their hairline higher, making their foreheads appear as large and high as possible. I’m sure they would say the same thing about some of our trends today though!"

And for those who didn't go completely bare and eggheaded, another brow trend of the time was to dye them red in honor of Queen Elizabeth. Was the ginger arch the Elizabethan Era modern day Kate Middleton blowout?

Victorian Era

PHOTO: IMAGES/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

If Cara Delevingne lived during this era, her eyebrows would have been undoubtedly as coveted as they are today — just take a look at this portrait of Florence Nightingale. Makeup was seen as something for prostitutes, so brows were left full and bushy, and skin bare. (The popular bold-brow, fresh-face look seems to have lasted the test of time.) But that’s not to say ladies of stature did not try to alter their appearance. Stylish European women would often use brow wigs (face merkins?) made of furry mouse skin to get that full-brow look. And they thought makeup was over-the-top?

1910s

PHOTO: COURTESY OF MAYBELLINE.

The idea that makeup was only for "women of the night" was quickly becoming an antiquated notion, and commercial cosmetics began popping up. One of the starting points was when a man named T.L. Williams witnessed his sister Mabel constantly applying a combination of Vaseline and burnt cork to her eyebrows to make them thicker and more defined. In a stroke of genius, he used a chemistry set to create a similar (and more marketable) concoction he called the Lash Brow Line that would eventually be dubbed Maybelline.

1920s

PHOTO: REX SHUTTERSTOCK.

The Flapper Era marks the true beginning of celebrity obsession as a cultural phenomenon. Women took inspiration from silent film stars like Louise Brooks and Clara Bow, plucking their brows into thin lines that went out to their temples.

"In the Coco Chanel era makeup became bolder from the previous years," explains celebrity makeup artist Tomy Rivero. "What was once considered trashy became a trend in transition to women wearing more 'in-charge' 'pants' attire. Expressing confidence by way of makeup in a male-dominated world at the time."

1930s

PHOTO: MOVIESTORE/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

"Brow trends are shaped by key influencers like the silent film stars of the '20s and '30s," explains Van Jones. "Access to these sought-after looks became accessible, especially after [legendary Hollywood makeup artist] Max Factor started nationally distributing these 'made for film' cosmetics to the public."

And even more so after he gave Greta Garbo the brow makeover of a lifetime, which included shaving them off and penciling them back in. That thin movie star-inspired brow of the '20s was still in, but instead of a line straight across, the arch became majorly rounded thanks to Garbo's new look.

‘The very skinny, rounded eyebrow looked great on Greta Garbo for giving her a signature character,” says Rivero. “But drawing super skinny lines that look like half circles on your face its pretty strange.”

1940s

PHOTO: C.EVERETT/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

During the wartime era eyebrows started trending back toward a more full look, but with a very defined arch. Beauties like Lauren Bacall and Grace Kelly lead by example.

1950s

PHOTO: MOVIESTORE/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

This was a great time for fashion and a great time for brows. The only thing that could truly complement Dior’s “New Look” was a done-up face with bright lips, lined eyes, and a perfectly manicured full brow like Marilyn Monroe’s.

"For me one of the most flattering times was the '50s [and] early '60s," says Rivero. "The perfectly shaped and sculpted eyebrows with a pronounced arch of the Hollywood starlets were perfectly kept and arched to fit and frame their faces. It's a very beautiful look and I think we are transitioning there slowly today from a more wild, bushy '80s look to a more defined eyebrow aesthetic."

1960s

PHOTO: SILVER SCREEN COLLECTION/GETTY IMAGES

If you thought the shaving the brows off and drawing them back on again thing was a lesson learned, lived, and forgotten, think again — although you could never tell by this pic. Supposedly, Sofia Loren's eyebrows curved down too close to her eyes and made her look "sad," so she got rid of them completely and penciled them back on using tiny brushstrokes to make them look as natural as possible. Seriously cray, insanely impressive.

1970s

PHOTO: MOVIESTORE/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

In the decennial flip-flop from skinny to full brows, the disco era reverts back to ultra-thin arches (as seen on Pam Grier), yet thankfully with a natural-looking arch.

1980s

PHOTO: UNIMEDIA/REX SHUTTERSTOCK.

This was the era of excess. Rivero says it was about more makeup and more hair — the bigger the better! The phrase "bold brows" must have originated in the '80s.

"In the '80s, pop era brows were left full and natural creating a bold and decadent look — a sign of times," says Van Jones. "Madonna wore them as dark as possible with platinum hair, while Brooke Shields sported them feathery and naturally askew."

1990s

PHOTO: JOHN DEE/REX SHUTTERSTOCK

Most every brow how-to you come across these days introduces the subject with some sort of lamenting the over-plucking days of the '90s. It's hard to think that we would ever regret doing something that Kate Moss championed, but it's true.

"Grunge and Goth-like heroin chic look followed the decadence and excess of the '80s," says Van Jones."[The brows] were shaped extremely thin. This was also the height of MAC & RuPaul, bleached hair, black hair, black & red lipstick, and skinny eyebrows were everywhere."

2000s

PHOTO: MOVIESTORE/REX/SHUTTERSTOCK

We started to witness the changing tide in brows around the time the new millennium kicked in. (And who better to illustrate it than Anne Hathaway, who had hers plucked on camera in The Princess Diaries.) Super-thin sets were officially on the outs, but big, bushy ones weren't in full force yet either. Instead, we landed somewhere in-between. Brows were shorter, slightly fuller, and had a tube-like shape. Oh, and they were pretty severely arched — because that's always a good look.

2010s

PHOTO: REX SHUTTERSTOCK

"I believe the most flattering time for brows is now!" says Van Jones. "At the moment, we’re seeing a huge trend for women to wear full, bold brows. Almost every day, a client comes into the salon with a picture of Cara Delevingne with the desire to replicate her full brow look on them. We love it! A fuller brow can give our clients a more youthful appearance and, at the same time, tinting or filling in the brow creates definition and sophistication to anyone’s look."

Today & Beyond

VICTOR VIRGILE/GETTY IMAGES

“The runway is loaded with various full-brow manifestations — colored, bejeweled, fluffy, feathery, large-and-in-charge,” says Van Jones. "[In the future,] I see people pushing the boundaries and taking risks with color, jewels, and other embellishments. Women understand more and more that brows can be a true beauty statement, much like a bold lip color."

PHOTO: VIA @KALEYCUOCO.

"We saw pastel-colored eyebrows and goth-like eyebrow rings on the runway last year, and I have no doubt we’ll see those trends making their way into street style very soon," says Van Jones. (Kaley Cuoco is clearly leading the pack with her colored set.)

Makeup artists are letting their imaginations run wild when it comes to brows, and treating them more like an accessory. At Moncler, artist Val Garland dusted white powder onto models' sets to mimic the effect of being caught in a snowstorm.

But if crazy colors and textures aren't for you, there's also the flip side of 2016 brow trends. We like to call this the "no-makeup makeup" of brows. They're meant to look bushy and slightly undone. The trick, however, is to groom them to look that way. Products like Glossier's Boy Brow have been created to get that perfectly feathered look in a snap.

The #1 award-winning eyeliner that’s known for its long-lasting, highly pigmented, waterproof formula, is now infused with Bulgarian Rose Water in limited edition!

Why Bulgarian Rose Water?

Among others, the Bulgarian Rosa Damascena Rose organically grown in the "Rose Valley" in Bulgaria is recognised as the finest rose in the world. Bulgarian Rose Water (Rose Hydosol) derived from fresh organic Rosa Damascena petals has a vast range of beauty benefits because of the presence of numerous water-soluble active ingredients.

Bulgarian Rose Water is often used in hydrating products due to its moisturising properties and its ability to control our skin's sebum production. According to many eyeliner users, oily lids are a common cause of their runny or smudgy eye make-up. To counter that, K-Palette has decided to infuse this premium ingredient into its formula to keep our eyelids well-moisturised and hence reduce the tendency for them to turn oily.

H&M is proud to announce a collaboration with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs located in the Palais du Louvre in Paris. The new H&M Conscious Exclusive collection, designed with inspiration from the archives of the museum, will be launched on 7 April 2016 in connection with the opening of the exhibition Fashion forward - Three centuries of fashion. Parisian art director, style maven and sustainability champion, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, will be the face of the campaign.

"I am honoured to be the ambassador of such a unique project. I think that the idea of creating a collection inspired by the history of art and fashion is brilliant. Especially since it is made with innovative, sustainable materials which are the future of fashion," says Julia. Known for her distinctively personal sense of style, she is the embodiment of effortless, conscious and modern cool.

For this Conscious Exclusive collection, the H&M design team has worked closely with the museum to find inspiration from its collections of centuries of fashion, as well as the work of artists such as Gustave Moreau. The outcome of a glamorous line of modern red carpet pieces is infused with the tactile charm and aesthetic legacy of history.

"With this collection we brought the idea of sustainability to new levels. Working with new innovative materials such as beads and rhinestones of recycled glass and Denimite, a material made out of recycled worn-out denim, we have created contemporary styles imbued with a sophisticated charm," says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M.

H&M will be the exclusive sponsor of the upcoming exhibition which will include selected styles from the H&M archives, including one silhouette from the first H&M designer collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004 and one silhouette from the new Conscious Exclusive collection.

The complete collection featuring clothing and accessories for women will be available from 7 April 2016 in around 180 stores worldwide and online.

Is It Wise to Exercise with Makeup On?

With our busy schedules, most of us go to the gym immediately after work, and usually with a full face of makeup on. That seems like the most convenient way out for us -- looking good while we flex our biceps and work our abs, in case we bump into a cute guy at the gym.

However, at the back of our mind there is always this little nagging voice telling us that it is not a good idea to wear makeup while we are exercising. But how bad can a little powder get? We can buy strong cleansers to remove them at the end of the day, no?

The cons of working out with makeup on

1. Streaky face you

No this is not surprising. With all the perspiration running down your face, you are sure to look like streaky bacon while you are at it. And that is just the foundation. What about your eyeliner and mascara that is smudging onto your eyelids and undereye area? Not exactly a very good move if you are waitng for a cutie to appear though.

2. Your skin can't breathe

Our skin needs to breathe during a workout. With all the perspiration, open pores and heat mixing together with our makeup, the skin is going to get clogs over time. It may also result in uneven skin texture over the long run.

3. Breakouts

When you mix persipration with makeup when your pores are open during a workout, you are asking for trouble. Pores will get clogged and over time skin starts to get congested with whitehead, blackheads or acne.

What if I must wear makeup for my workout?

For someone who feels uncomfortable going out bare face,  it can be a giant step to take to go to the gym with no makeup on. If you really need to have a little something on your face, opt for a lightweight tinted moisturizer instead of going full on with liquid foundation. Always check the label to see that the products  you are using are non-comedogenic and always do a thorough cleansing as soon as you can after that.

Live, Laugh, Love — My Life Philosophy

Having to live, laugh and love is pretty much the generic quote for everyone to live their life.

So here’s my take on my personal philosophy of life. Philosophy of life varies between each person, depending on one’s life experience. I believe that no two people will have seen life the same way. There definitely would be people having the similar philosophy on life but none of them would be the exactly the same. This broils down to the question of, what is my purpose in life? What is a question that we all deal with, why are we here, what is the point of life?

I truly believe that having a personal philosophy will help put one’s life in the right gear and transport one to more meaningful places.

So, what is my personal philosophy?

• Live simply
• Always try to do the right things right
• Take time to re-soul

These three make up my core attitude and beliefs of what gets me going everyday and, if successful, gives me satisfaction at the end of the day. I am among the imperfect, but I am trying to lead a more engaged life today through this personal philosophy. What is yours?
