If you’re an author and an educator that has presented more than 200 skin health lectures throughout the world, on top of being hailed as the man who created the science of skin health, each time you speak it’s a sure bet people will listen. And listen they did to celebrity dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, who was in town recently for a seminar; The Future of Skin Care is here-Prevention, Treatment and Rejuvenation, organised by Zoe Nissi Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor of ZO Skin Health and launch of his own medical skincare lines ZO Skin Health.
Dr. Obagi who has been described, among other adjectives, as charming yet provocative doesn’t mince his words when it comes to skin food for thought. As apparent with his firm statement citing that the chronic use of moisturizers among women is in fact, weakening the condition of the skin and that it’s akin to an act of self-destruction to one’s own skin. His passion for skin health is second only to his contempt for the cosmetic industry’s quick-fix promises and he’s not one to shy from using pictorial references of such products to illustrate his point.
He states that when skincare stimulates and challenge the skin; only then the skin’s tolerance can be improved, building up resistance which will encourage the renewal and thickening of epidermal. He further emphasise that the current skincare products in the market only serves to over pamper one’s skin with no long-term effects. 
Dr. Obagi’s one core principle is when treating skin disease, it has to be done within the context of skin health restoration, with the three skin health restoration principles being Correction (improve the epidermis); Stimulation (improve the dermis); and Bleaching and Blending (correct pigmentation problems). He believes that the focus shouldn’t be just on the disease because the results will be limited and short-lived.
