Stepping out of My Comfort Zone

Comfort zone is defined by Life Hacker as “a behavioural space where your activities and behaviours fit a routine and pattern that minimizes stress and risk. It provides a state of mental security. You benefit in obvious ways: regular happiness, low anxiety, and reduced stress.”

We all lean towards a state of stability. But honestly, when was the last time you told yourself or someone close that you are sick of your boring life? 5 minutes ago? It may be time to do something about it.

We are all responsible adults and I’m not suggesting that we should just leave everything we have on our hands and pursue our dream life because YOLO. We have our loans to pay off, our parents and family to take care of. So let’s do a stepping out in a responsible manner because I’m an adult tied down by social norms.

I said goodbye to my old job after spending many happy years there. Awesome job, great work environment, fabulous colleagues. Of course, there are at times, some negativity going on at the workplace and sometimes, things don’t work out the way you want it to be. But, I guess it boils down to how you want to perceive the problems and how you deal with them. No, work wasn’t a bed of roses, but it was a still a beautiful garden to me.

I had my doubts when I left. I need to support my parents and my new house is coming. I decided to leave after making sure that I had enough savings (thank God for all the investments I made when I was a young girl…Phew…) and all things can go on as per normal even if I wasn’t working. I decided to go on a sabbatical for at least a year, and travel a little more to see the world. I shan’t forget to thank my hubby who is always very supportive of the decisions I made.

But I guess God has things planned for me. I was given an opportunity to start a new job in a totally new industry just 8 months into my long break. I had my moments of self-doubt. I was worried that I won’t be able to a good job. But I was lucky to have supportive people around me and I am slowly getting the hang of it. I’m not the best, but I’m definitely sure that I’m working hard to improve myself.

Don’t be afraid to try new things. You’ll never know if you don’t try. Make every moment count!
