Every year a different wave of new food trend present themselves. 2017 was all about going green (think avocado) and everything charcoal! Come 2018, you can look forward to snacking or sipping on some of these familiar, yet unfamiliar treats if Whole Foods predictions are correct!

1. Edible Floral Everything
The floral force will still be going strong next year, though floral teas or flower-desserts have been with us for some time. In 2018, you're about to see and taste florals in a whole new dimension. Be prepared for a flood of lavender lattes, pink hibiscus tea or elderflower seltzers among other botanical inspirations.

2. Roots & Stems
The saying "one man trash is another man's treasure" has never been so apt in other years than 2018. Though the roots and stems might be labelled as garbage by some, yet it will be held in high regard by the foodies. Get ready for days where your IG feed will be "infected" with pictures of pickled watermelon rind, broccoli stem slaw or beet green pesto.
Well, we just hope this food trend brings about a reduction of food waste in Singapore.

3. Drinking Bubbles
Though not necessarily healthier than water, yet the bubbly soda water is going to get a lot funkier with plant-derived options like maple, birch and elderberry flower. In fact, we spotted some savoury ones like the Natto Soda and Dirty Squid Soda on the shelves. Well, it seems staying hydrated is about to get a whole lot easier.

4. Super Powders
You and I might not have super powers but hey we can definitely have some super powders. We are not referring to protein powder, but spirulina, curcuma and cacao powder! Super easy to incorporate into a recipe, these powders can be added almost unnoticed into lattes, smoothies and soups.

5. Mushroom Infused Fluids
The potential of mushrooms is not only confined to dietary supplements. Next year, expect to see mushroom varieties like reishi, chaga and cordyceps infusing your daily fluids. Yes, we are referring to your cup of morning Joe, hot chocolate, and teas. Well, thirst quencher with immune booster abilities doesn't sound too bad to us.

6. High Tech Plants
Good news for those gravitating towards the plant-based diet! Next year will bring a series of scientifically modified foods that taste like meat but aren't. We are really looking forward to that "tuna" sushi (made from tomatoes) and creamy dairy-free desserts (achieved through manipulation of nuts).
